CXR Trust Given Until February 15, 2022 To Sell WSUN & WPYO

That said, it’s still a mystery to me why WSUN is on two HD2 signals, same tower, coverage range, etc; I could understand if they were on two different towers; right now, I’m in an area between Tampa and Orlando and just checked and WSUN- is coming in on both 94.9 HD2 as well as 101.5 HD2; seems redundant.
Increasing the ability listeners will find it. Many still do not grasp how to find HD subchannels so in theory this doubles the chance at discovery.

There was a story going around a couple years ago that iHeartMedia CEO Bob Pittman got into an Uber and inquired as to why the driver was listening to WHTZ-HD2. Driver responded that he couldn't figure out how to switch it back to the primary Z100. Pittmann ordered all HD subchannels turned off the next day, but had to roll back on that when told that there were many financial and contractual reasons behind many of them being on, but WHTZ-HD2 was removed that day.

Nice to know the idiocy contimues. Same company [as Clear Channel] that went nuts buying all those AM/FM stations and ordering the AM Stereo shut off on those stations they bought that had it.

Probably more translator things planned -- 97.5 in SP alone just doesn't sound like it would be very...effective.

On the other hand I'd be trying to secure any TXer available to keep an 'Alt' from happening.

One more thing. WWRM has or had a translator on 102.5 up in NPR. What is that translator airing now?

Byron

Maybe NIA could swap the 97.5 translator for WSUN so Cox could move 97X to it and still be "97X." Cox already simulcasts 97X on WPOI-HD2. They could use that to feed 97.5. Wishful thinking, I know.
Wow! They actually did move it to 97.5. I thought that wouldn't happen. Cox must be dedicated to 97X.

I streamed it some today. I didn't hear the new 97.5 frequency mentioned as much as I thought I would. It would be a good idea to emphasize the new frequency since they will soon not be available on 97.1.

On air imaging is really pushing the apps and streaming. That's clearly the direction they're going. Without sounding like a mess on air with trying to clarify to the listeners when and where each frequency actually works, they're probably just going with the streaming presentation and if they get other listeners over the air... it's a bonus. But honestly.....

What a joke. Just give up on 97X already. I understand what was written about keeping a presence and whatever sales and promotions they can get by keeping the brand active... but the station isn't what it once was and it's sucked for more than the last year on the current signal. If you think one of the other groups in the market is gonna do "alternative", it aint gonna happen. Totally unnecessary... 98Rock isn't changing it's approach and 98.7 The Shark seems to be damn determined to continue to grab whoever The Eagle and 98 Rock doesn't have as a listener at any given the moment. The current state of the pop alternative format sucks anyway and the remaining 3 rock stations will continue to serve the market and the major radio groups adequately.

I mean.... how much did Cox invest in getting the 97.5 translator from WTMP? I actually thought WTMP was probably doing quite well with that signal and was showing up in the ratings.... but I'm guessing they think 102.1 and 1150 HD is good enough will work and the money is more important. Guess we'll see.

By the way, 102.5 The Bone has been operating on 97.1 HD2 serving the Northern areas. Not sure if that translator that was mentioned is even operational. Probably not.

So I'm assuming the countdown is on for the end of 97X and Power 95.3 - any word yet on when it may be?

I have to wonder because Cox hasn't said anything about relocating Power 95.3, a station that is still pretty popular from what I gather.

Moving it to 96.5 sounds pretty obvious, but apparently they still believe in their Spanish format. It's doing well, but I don't see how it wouldn't get clobbered by iHeart and SBS. Cox has so little experience with Spanish formats that they named the station "Éxitos", which is played out especially for a "hip" CHR.

Cox is in a catch 22 with WPYO. They’re selling the frequency to someone who will directly compete with one of their existing properties. WOEX is doing well, but once SBS takes over their former 95.3, they’re going to have double the competition and could fall fast. Moving Power to 96.5 may not make sense initially but in the long run it might be less risky for Cox, especially considering WXXL’s strong market position and how CHR has done for them on 95.3.

Looked into it a bit more and according to applications, it seems the 97.5 translator has been re-assigned from WTMP to 101.5 WPOI. The 102.5 translator in Pasco that was referenced in an earlier post is assigned to 94.9 WWRM (but as mentioned earlier, not sure if it's on or not, but that would make sense as to why "X" is on both HD2s. They're feeding separate translators. Construction permit has WTMP's 102.1 translator moving to the Starkey Road tower. Also noticed somewhere that the sale price was 12.5 million for what I believe was for both WPYO and WSUN.

Jorge Pabón "El Molusco" has announced that WMEG's afternoon show will be syndicated to 95.3 and 97.1, and he also implies that another SBS morning show could be coming. Middays haven't been announced but it's very likely to be Alex Sensation.

Interesting development. Orlando is of course, Puerto Rico's 79th municipality. Tampa Bay, not so much...

Given the type of programming Molusco does, the format is likely going to be Latin CHR, which makes me wonder why Cox didn't shelf Éxitos and move Power to 96.5. Their toes are going to be stepped on.

95.3 is in the mix all day long this is nothing short of amazing this is how you sign off
97.1 is business as usual. This is everything short of amazing as CMG Tampa hasn't made an announcement and will let the day pass without reflecting upon 20+ years as Tampa Bay's Alternative. Well done, Power 95.3!

The all day long sign off and programming on 95.3 Orlando today has been simply amazing. I don't care what format or genre of music you're a fan of... THIS is how a radio station should sound every day during normal programming. ...and I mean that by "in format", the energy and fun that I've heard today engages the listener and makes me wanna keep listening. Whoever had a say in allowing this today deserves a lot of credit. Well done.
