D&C? Why Bother? Like Tony said to Big Puss, You Got Options!!

I keep posting about this topic, but........Check out WWZN for morning drive. Last week the Lew and Mike did a superb interview with South Boston Congressman Stephen Lynch. Lynch is on the committee that gathered testimony from Mitchell, Fehr, and Selig, and next month with Clemens. They really asked the right questions and got the Southie rep to open up. They often have Dan Duquette, who actually laughs when they lull him into a safe place and get him to speak frankly about Theo and ARod, to mention a few, although he will not speak about Clemens.

Any time there's a post regarding Dennis and Callahan, the response is fast and furious, and it's just about unanymous that they are deemedoffensive, arrogant, intolerant and all the other stuff we all know to be the case. Here's a quality option. Lew & Mike have an excellent grasp of the the sports topics, and they actually have a vocablulary. For a show eminating from 1510, it makes this observation all the more impressive. It is clearly the beacon in a dank WWZN ocean.

You'll notice how all the responses about D&C being offensive, arrogant, intolerant and all the other stuff come from all those people who "hate" them. You'll also notice, if you take but two or three seconds to think about it, that they couldn't possibly know how D&C are if they don't listen.

We have a word for that. It starts with "h."

Oh, BTW...D&C are #1 in adults 25-54. Must be all those people who "hate" them. The Zone is tied for 55th with three other stations.

i dont like d&c.

somedays i do switch over from 9-10 (after imus goes off) and await dale and holley (the one quality 'eei broadcast).

perhaps i should listen to 1510 in the am. ive never listened to their am drive broadcast.

My D&C observation was based on the pervasive opinion tossed about in these pages. I was mot suggesting that WWZN has a better brand than WEEI. WWZN is lucky to be broadcasting. My only purpose for the post was to point out to those who claim to be frustrated and annoyed by the Dennis and Callahan show, there's an option worth a listen. A real good option.

If you are loyal to WEEI's morning show, enjoy!! But there's no need to desparage the mere suggestion that there's an option. It's just an option. It's not a mandate. If a show is good, a show is good, regardless of the station on which is broadcasts. WEEI is king, but I found a worthy secret, for morning drive 7-9 on the 55th ranked 1510 the Zone. So thanks for the Arbitron lesson, although it has nothing to do with the topic. Hey, even the Tampa Bay Devil Rays send a player to the All-Star Game.

You have to remember that dumber than a box of hair is an Entercom employee who lashes out at anyone who criticizes the product.

if you don't like D&C, do check out WWZN, especially if you want sports talk. They also had a good interview with Steve Grogan the other morning. One of the classiest guys to ever don a Pats' jersey. One tough SOB, too.

That explains a lot. Dumber sounds a lot like Callahan.

That would be wrong, but thanks for playing. Don Pardo, tell him what his consolation prize is.

Know what, I had you confused with another poster on this board. I owe you an apology.

I'd be nice to listen to an AM sports competitor to D&C, if it could actually come in on my radio. :p More people would follow your advice, and D&C's ratings would hardly be as high if Boston ever was able to get a 2nd sports station with reception as good as EEI's.

Me, I go to a non-sports alternative every morning instead. Which probably has more actual sports content than D&C anyway. :p

Actually if he's who I think, he'd have plenty of reason to bash Entercom not praise them.

I tuned in after Imus this AM. They had apparently interviewed Jonathan Kraft earlier. A caller said that he had attended a seminar which featured Jonathan Kraft. He said that he had used some of the principles from this lecture in his own, small, family business. Callahan's reply was "What did you do? Use less cheese on the pizza, water down the Sprite?" I guess Callahan could tell from the sound of the guy's voice what he did for a living. He's all knowing.

Sarcasm on the radio is one thing. Callahan's rudeness is beyond the pale. I guess someone who owns a Pizza store is not worthy enough to breathe Callahan's air. I hope his local pizza shop was listening and they give him a surprise in his next order.

Callahan, in his column today, called himself a member of a class of species lower on the food chain than the dung beetle.

I applaud that kind of honesty & truthfulness. I just wish it extended to his radio work, and then maybe more people would listen.

I tuned in to 1510 this AM. The show was pretty good, but the reception was lousy. Too bad that someone doesn't put a local sports format on a station with a strong signal. It's pretty obvious why WEEI is #1.............Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, and no competition. I can't imagine that others are afraid of 'EEI's "talent".

I agree, but with this qualifier. The reception was perfect between until 9, but at 9 until then end at 10, it deteriorated. It's a 50,000 watt signal, supposedly. Must be an antenna/tower thing. There's no doubt Lew and Mike show would give D&C a run for the money if it had a real promotions and production department behind it. 1510 does nothing to promote its shows, except on their balky website and on-air promos.

>>I tuned in to 1510 this AM.

An ad running in one of the papers today (forget if it was Herald or Globe) talked about how YOU could
host YOUR OWN SPORTS TALK SHOW!! on AM 1510, with its "50,000 watt signal". Yes, buy your way onto
the air (it gave a phone number and the email address for Anthony Pepe, whom you may remember as
part of WEEI's "Pepe and the waterboys"). Of course if they don't put dollar-a-hollar sports on,
WWZN can find other stuff to put on--ranging from Sunday night Irish shows to overnight Brother Stair.
