Radio Dial
It's risky to talk about the great station lineups on New York radio, the ones that for many listeners define some era, because radio is so personal you always leave out someone's favorite.
Almost everyone would agree, for instance, on WABC and WMCA of the late '60s, Scott Shannon's original Z100 of the mid-'80s, WCBS-FM of the '90s, the first WKTU, the early hip-hop Hot-97 and Frankie Crocker's first WBLS. Couldn't omit the early WNEW-FM, and certainly not the WNEW-AM of William B. Williams.
But others are equally worthy, and while time must pass to confirm a lineup's durability, it seems likely that a few years from now, many of today's teens will say the same thing about the current WHTZ (Z100, 100.3 FM).
