dale & holley

what are your opinions on this show? i rarely see it discussed on these boards.

in my opinion, it is *by far* the best program on weei. good, intelligent sports chat, with a little humor (and NO hollering).

i only have one small criticism, dale, and to a lesser extent holley, seems to fall in love with some of their guests. sometimes they fail to ask the difficult or uncomfortable questions.

You're dead on with that, if there is such a term as "ballwasher", Dale Arnold wins it hands down. He would rather pretend to be the guest's best friend rather than give the listeners what they want to hear. His questions are absolute softballs. God forbid a listener call up and question him on it either, he'll jump right down their throat, which bothers me also. I don't feel the same for Holley though, I think he steps it up when needed, unlike his partner.

Dale & Holley is my favorite of all of the 'EEI shows. Holley's little love songs and cute little knicknames for everyone are a little annoying but not that big a deal. By and large they are very knowledgeable and are respectful of the callers. They do however "blow up" the real jerks when necessary.

D&C are reprehensible pieces of fecal material and the Big Show, while entertaining, is difficult to listen to because of all the yelling and interrupting. There are times when five people (including a caller) are yelling at once. Despite that, I do listen most of the time. I've always liked Mike Adams, but I'm usually watching TV when his show is on. The Baseball and Football shows on weekends are good, but Mustard and Johnson are awful.

I totally agree - Dale and Holley are EASILY the best thing on that station. I love the Sox and I love sports radio - I was bummed that the Sox didn't flip EEI off last time and form their own station.

The only other things on that station I can stand listening to are Mustard & Johnson and the baseball show when Sean McAdam is on it. I can't stand listening to all the political talk in the morning or those neanderthal idiots in afternoon drive.

I think Dale and Holley are a great tandem and Holley is just weird enough to offset Dale's straight edge personality....although, whenever tedy bruschi is on, the absolute ballwashing that goes on is unbearable...but besides that I find them to be insightful and relevant without being pompous

Travis you only see this with Bruschi? How about Vince Wilfork, Richard Seymour, Rodney Harrison, Peter King, Terry Francona and 5 others I am probably missing that are regulars on that show. I want to puke after listening to Dale ballwash em up.

it's a good show... I haven't been listening much this week because it's going to be a parade of guests without much to say... have they been having on guests who are selling stuff i.e. representing some commercial interest and, after the interview, they make the pitch for whatever they're selling?

I've been listening, off and on, to the WWZN local show from 12-2, Touching All The Bases. Eddie, the host, must have the worst Mass. accent I've heard on a show and that includes another Eddie. You'd think he could rein it in a LITTLE bit. Content-wise, it's OK. And it's nice to not hear the ballwashing that does happen on D&H.

I think Dale has to be this way because he knows this stint is it...or head back up to Maine and do Portland Pirates' games. Don't underestimate the motivation that comes from realizing that you're awfully lucky to be where you are and you'll play the game the way your superiors want it played. And with Dale being the 'Mr. Rogers' of Boston sports radio, it's an easy road for him to hoe.

i agree with sonical on the guy from touching all bases. his accent is horrendous. the show isnt bad, however. but it seems like they give prizes to all the callers?

as for dale (day-le) arnold, i will also say that he always seems well prepared for his show. he does his homework.

Dale has ALWAYS done his homework.

Maybe that's why he has such a loyal following?

I remember tech-ing the board for the MAINE MARINERS HOCKEY GAMES at WGAN for several years. Dale is a class act and definitely a professional! ;)

It's the best show of WEEI. I'd follow that with Mike Addams. I can't listen to Denis and Callahan (too political for a sports talk show; too racist, sexist, and homophobic too). The Big Show is just tough to listen to as too many people are talking at the same time--difficult to follow who says what.

really? I listened to Mikey for a little while the other night while doing some stuff in my office here and found him a bit annoying. It seems as though he's dumbed down his act from his previous shows, made himself sound like a bit more of a yahoo. And his opening theme music is horrible. There must be a happy medium between his schtick and Teddy Sarnadis' uptight, stick up the you-know-where presentation. I suppose I'd still take Mikey over that.

And I agree completely that Dale sounds like a class act. Holley is definitely likeable, too.

I loved Mike Adams and Howard Green when they were on NECN on Saturday nights. I'm not such a big fan of Adams now though. He picks his crusade (Manny) and sticks with it, no matter what is brought before him. "Yahoo" is the right term for him, whoever used it earlier.

BTW, I am surprised that someone on here said that they like listening to Mustard and Johnson. That is one of the two worst shows on WEEI.

I like Dale & Holley....Although I think Dale gets frustrated when Holley takes over and doesn't shut up
