Dallas radio coming in south of Austin!

Just south of Austin, I'm picking up Dallas FM good right now, after the dry line came through, I am picking up WRR HD, (over KONO 101.1) KESS HD, 106.1, 96.3, 95.9 all in stereo. 102.9 is fighting over KLTN in Houston, but can pick them up from time to time.

The tornado yesterday blew the towers closer to Austin. It may take the engineers a few days to drag them back up to Cedar Hill.

Yep, but normally I get Houston and along the bay area, not up North.

There is a considerable hill on the South side of Austin. When I went to UT, a lot of student apartments were on that hill. I hung a radio shack 6 element yagi from the ceiling, and Dallas radio was amazing. Those were the classic days of KZEW FM. I could swing it around for Houston and San Antonio, which were almost like locals. KRBE, in particular, was so strong over Austin that I didn't even have fades. Dallas FM in the car was a bit difficult, but worked on occasion.

Oddly enough, yesterday morning KZPS was getting slammed by some other 92.5, sounded like Kidd Kraddick or some other morning show.

No, it's called tropo enhancement. Example of E-skip is hearing Dallas FM signals at 25 miles west of Duluth, MN, of which I have heard on 3 occasions already.

I use to have a 6 element antenna here up about 23' in the air, after light ling got it and blew out most all of my equipment including internet I took it down, now I have a pair of rabbit ears in the top of the attic and it almost does as good of a job as the yagi did.

I had that same antenna when I lived in Hot Springs Arkansas as a kid.

I could pick up WMC FM 100 out of Memphis clear as a bell over 200 miles away.

Radio Shack also sold a little S-shaped outdoor antenna that did a pretty good job.

The FM band is so crowded these days it's dang hard to get a distant signal anymore. You have to get out of the metro to have any luck.

93.3 is my favorite Austin station and I can still get it a little ways north of Hillsboro until i93 finally takes over.

I remember the days in the late 70's and early 80's before there was a 104.1 in DFW - KRBE could be hear in parts of the metroplex. Somebody told me it even occasionally showed up in the ratings. KRBE made some sort of engineering change at some point - their former range is gone.
