Dallas Sports Radio Guy Tweeting Racist and Hateful Tweets

fredcantu said:
Any chance it was someone tweeting using his name? Even Governor Perry had that happen to him without his knowledge.

What are the odds? And this just so happens to happen at a time when a Dallas team plays a SA team? Not to mention he is in sports radio, most people in sports radio tweet about their game experiences.

I don't believe his twitter was hacked.

He's a sports guy. ::)
What do you think, he's not some kind of "pillar of the community". or moral compass reference.
Don't tell me you expect a sports nut to be some kind of advanced equality idealist.
Consider the source and move on..

I do not accept racism in my business or my friends. YOU sir, may "get over" that.

I don't "accept" it, but I recognize it exists, and while we have choice in friends, business (or work) may require that we
get along with those whose positions we would find obnoxious. It would be better that we would NOT have to deal with such
"isms" in people if we didn't find out they feel this way. Such folks will always make sure to find a way to
promote their "ism". I work daily with a openly racist man, and while we've never discussed race, we don't see eye to eye anyway,
so we steer clear and simply say ALMOST NOTHING to each other, unless it is directly tied to a job at hand where both of us are required.

Well put Tom.

I later learned that there was a fairly large amount of racism on that station. Mr. Bacsik was made an example of, and it it ceases the hate on that station then I am happy. I do still acknowledge that Mike Bacsik is still a human being, however he really dug his own grave. Cumulus almost had no choice but to let him go.

I honestly hope this serves as a lesson for people in the media that you just can't do this type of thing and expect to keep your job.

There are things said on the Ticket that are 10000 times more offensive than this.
One of the local sports talk shows mentioned that Dallas-based listeners have pointed out that Bacsik;s observation was based on a "drop" promo that airs on his station. His tweet was making a reference that had been made, ostensibly as a joke, many times in the promo airing on his station.

Then the nature of Tweet to inherently ignore "context" is a real problem, just like shouting "fire" inappropriately.
Any insider or regular listener references to "joke" status on this matter would seem to be crucial to understanding/misunderstanding.
It's still a very troublesome area to be fishing for humor.

Simply amazing/disturbing. How in the hell could the people of Dallas let alone the FCC let that fly?

It's what you call "community standards." It's why something you may consider normal on-air banter in one market is considered shock jock material in another. Some targets are off limits in some markets and fair game in others. With that said, if his comments were in reference to something else already on-air, it looks like the station found someone to take the fall for their overall presentation.

That is exactly what had happened. I am willing to bet that little "bit" will be killed in light of this situation. It is sad Mr. Bacsik had such a national fallout but I do not feel sorry for him.

I agree..so, let's take a look at your twitter

@ILUVPOOHHEFF ok let me take a shot at it. Kobe is a rapist and Odom married a horse. YES! You knew I had 2 say something... lol
9:17 PM Apr 26th via web in reply to ILUVPOOHHEFF

Harmless..an obvious joke. I know that and you know that. However, some LA based radio blog could go to Kobe in the locker room and say "this radio guy in San Antonio is calling you a rapist...and Lamar he thinks your wife is a horse" How do you think that would end up playing out?

I'm just saying that the day after YOU (by forwarding Bacsik's tweet and posting the blog) helped in creating an s-storm for Mike Bacsik by presumably (according to frequent listeners at least) misinterpreting the intent of a tweet--albeit an inappropriate tweet, you turn around and post something like that which could also be misunderstood. I just wanted to give you the heads up. I could care less about Mike Bacsik. I think the guy was constantly inappropriate and probably should have been history some time ago. However, I know there are many loyal listeners to KTCK who probably think otherwise so, I wouldn't give them anything to work with. I listen to the 1310 somewhat regularly and have never heard that drop even once so I'm just going on what I have been reading on these boards.

Right, we're on the same page and apologies if my earlier post came off a bit strident. It's just that I've completely had it up to here with people who say "deal with it" when it comes to racism. My own personal belief is that it has to be knocked down HARD whenever and wherever it appears, be it workplace, home, school, anywhere. If this causes bruised feelings, then so be it, but too many people have been hurt over the years by this kind of garbage for good people to stand by and say nothing. I have been fortunate to work in situations where my co-workers generally agreed with those beliefs. Were I to be in a position where I had to put up with it in order to feed my family, I'd be looking for another job every day if management was unable/unwilling to step in and stop it.

And to the "personality" who got fired, good riddance.
