I would bet that it has something to do with Florida law...or lack thereof. Anyone ever noticed that all the work-at-home scams and other come-ons are based in Florida? It's akin to Delaware's laxed credit card laws, where all the major banks set up their credit-giving offices in Delaware to take advantage of a state they've obviously bought and paid for.
This reminds me of Brother Robert Tilton...after he screwed over the North Texas crowd, he laid low for a short time, then popped up on obscure cable channels and hawked his salvation services to a new, unwitting audience nationwide. At least with the internet nowadays, those who even bother to can easily check out someone's reputation--or lack thereof.
While we're on the subject of scam relocations, why is it that every scam-type business that started and failed in Dallas always seems to make its way to Houston, and thrives there? Mattress shops, brake and muffler repair, two-bit electronic stores, deep-discount retailers who sell shoddy crap, certain restaurants, etc...they are all alive and well in Houston. I'd hate to make a stereotypical statement and say that Houstonians are more gullible that Dallasites, but then again, based on personal observations of these businesses, their "presence" and their marketing strategies, I'm reminded of commercials I used to see in the 80s on WGN-Chicago and WOR/WWOR-New York via cable. Screaming, in-your-face, YOU-WON'T-EVEN-BELIEVE-THIS! kind of crap...and, after the c. 1980 mass migration of "Yankees" into Houston, this marketing "plan" followed them there. Am I totally off base here?
