Danbury - "Mr. Morning" Bill Trotta goes from 98Q to Y105

What could the pay increase be in a move like this? $41K to $43K? This is like market 200 isn't it? I read the quote on the Y105 page about being able to finally be "broadcasting to a more mature demographic" that's a great way to get your old audience to follow you...call them immature. Love small time radio minds. Bragging about being "MR" morning for 19 years in the same market is only news if it's a top 10 market. Best of luck to you and whomever gets to be your replacement at 98Q.

Mr. AM probably asked GM Irv "Big Bucks" Goldstein for a modest raise and he told him to hit the road and don't come back no more, nor more, no more.......... ::) ::) ::)

I think the mature demo comment was more of a dig at 98Q and the fact they move younger and younger vs. the audience. Less emphasis on 18-34 and more on 25-54, I guess....and 19 years on one station IS news, regardless of market.

From the scuttlebutt I've heard from others in the industry, he had been relieved of being program director not long back and had gotten a pay cut. A pay cut would be all the motivation most of us would need to find a new job and I suppose the offer came at the right time for him.

The rumor on the street is that the new target demo for 98Q for this year is PB (as in pre-birth) to 18. Their new, yet to be released positioning statement is "From the womb, to your room, 98-Q"

From what I heard, it had nothing to do with a pay cut. Reality is that the station is programmed for a twelve year old and that combined with persistance and a good offer on behalf of new mgmt at WDBY made it easy for him I'm sure. Hats off to Mr. M and whoever pulled that off....19 years is pretty remarkable.

There must be a lot of 12 year olds in Danbury if this station is #2 in the market. Seriously, does anyone here know what kind of money mornings pay in market #200? It couldn't have been over money. Maybe the new PD is a boob?

I don't know how that station ends up #1 all the time. Targeting teens isn't gonna generate big sales revenue.
R & R has Danbury at market #198. Mr. Morning couldn't have been making more than $45k a year. The new PD must be a boob! ::)

What a tool. Anyone that can make a living doing radio for 2 decades, especially in the same market, is doing a lot of things correctly. What exactly have you accomplished? BTW, $45K in radio is pretty effing successful. If $ is what your after, then radio was a disastrous career choice.

Dude! 45k a year after working 20 + years doing morning drive is absolutley PATHETIC! I don't care if it's mornings in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Beside the fact that the owner of LAD/DAQ is a cheap bastard. ::)

Caveman, crawl back in your cave! 20 years in the same #200 market while still making what board ops make in mid-major markets is NOT that exciting. Wouldn't you want to move out of the minor leagues at some point? Yes, I agree, 20 years in ANY job is a pretty great task, but in radio, if you aren't trying to THE BEST, no matter how much money you are making, then you have no drive. And staying in a #200 market is not striving for the best. And yes, money IS a factor in EVERY job. It is because people are willing to work for sh$t money that GM's keep paying it. Have some pride, be your best and show that you are worth the big bucks!

[EDIT-inflammatory content] who are you to decide what is "exciting" to someone? Maybe he likes the area? Maybe he is perfectly happy with his salary? Maybe he has money from other sources? You decide who has "drive'? Get a grip.

You've seen his paycheck?

By the way...people who call people a [EDIT-reference to inflammatory content]are more pathetic than people that make $45K after 20 years on the job. Good luck at Y105!

Mr. Mojo was there for 20 years doing mornings because it's a stress free gig. It's not like they live and die by ratings. Major market advertisers are not pounding down DAQ's door to get on the air. Again, it goes back to being a BIG fish in a small pond. He could have been there for 50 years until someone has to drag him out of the studio feet first. He probably had enough of the Berkshire BS and decided I can do a stress free show across the state line.

Tool is inflammatory content? Not to be a third grader here, but HE STARTED IT!
It should take DAQ about six months to find a permanent replacement. Not many people want to do morning drive for $25k a year. But knowing the owner, he will simulcast the ever popular Dave Rinelli show on LAD.
