Dancing with the Stars...With no "Stars" this season?

DWTS has gone through several bumps (and declining viewership) in recent years...From the fact that it became more of a popularity contest than about dance talent (teams that got relatively low scores from the judges could be kept on week after week if voters at home called or logged in enough times to try and keep them on the show), to the season when Bobby Bones more or less rigged the voting by encouraging listeners of his radio show to vote, creating multiple e-mail addresses to do so if need be. Bones, who got lackluster dance scores and lukewarm comments every week won the season finale, primarily based on viewer votes, while a Latin dancer who got perfect 10s multiple weeks from the judges, went home early. There were also political situations when people like Geraldo Rivera and Sean Spicer were brought on, got consistently low scores for their dance abilities each week, but stayed on because of viewer votes...To the point where the pros judging the dances were stunned or shaking their heads when it was announced they'd survived the cuts yet again. The folks in charge of the show then kicked long time popular hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews to the curb, replacing them with Tyra Banks who was not received particularly well.

This morning, they announced the lineup of "stars" for this coming season. I'm not sure what constitutes a "star" or a "celebrity" to the producers of the show, but of the entire lineup, I know one of them. Brian Austin Green. And that was from his time on Beverly Hills 90210. Which aired back in the 1990s. Looks like this show has run short on budget or has perhaps lost interest from the network?

Dancing with the Z-List Stars. And without Tom Bergeron, I am sure the ratings are heading down the toilet and will reach rock bottom soon.
The days of Kristi Yamaguchi and Drew Lachey are over. In that said season with Drew & Cheryl, the finale had nearly doubled the audience of NBC's Torino Closing Ceremony. But like I said, that era is long gone. ABC has to finally give this 16-year experiment up sometime. But what ideas are left for the 70-year-old network, other than another revival of some '90s show?

In the case of Disney they are boosting attention of their latest content on apps to get viewers to subscribe to Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ on TV devices Apps store.

I don't think Dancing with the stars or anything within the ABC label is a priority for now except ABC News probably.

I knew in some countries Disney had to shutdown their cable channels as part of a move to get subscribers over to Star+(the overseas edition of Hulu) and Disney+.

The show is in its 30th season this year, is that right? A lot about the show has changed since I first started watching it, but that's okay. I just hope we're going through a phase and Tyra can get us back to the exictment of the Tom and Erin era. Len should be back from Europe this season as well. If that fails, the show probably will fall through.

Got an NBA player.
Yeah, but as with most everyone else they announced on Wednesday, this particular NBA player who'll be on this coming season is a relatively unknown, especially when compared with many past sports "stars" they've had on. Think about past some past sports pros featured on DWTS who's names are familiar to many, even if they're not exactly into sports: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Evander Holyfield, Jerry Rice, Floyd Mayweather, Monica Seles, Warren Sapp, Michael Waltrip, Antonio Brown, Victor Espinoza, Nancy Kerrigan, Simone Biles, Terrell Owens, Mary Lou Retton, Tonya Harding and the list goes on.

They have their requisite country star. Jimmie Allen is a current country star with several #1s and an AC Award. He may win this thing. He was also an Idol contestant back in the day.

Didn't make it into the voting rounds, according to his Wikipedia bio, and has had only two hits, period, but both hit No. 1 in country airplay. If DWTS wanted a country star who reflected diversity, Darius Rucker or Kane Brown would have been far more recognizable. Of course, the biggest name in country music right now is Luke Combs. I'm laughing just thinking about him on DWTS.

It's a big time commitment. They have to be willing to shut down touring for a few months, and most country stars won't do that.

Come on crainbebo, this is the network which is bringing us a prime-time court show with Steve Harvey!

Dancing has not had very many big stars in any single season. I remember this being a criticism in like season 4 or 5.

According to this article, the salaries for DWTS "talent" are as follows: Stars/Contestants make $125k starting, they make more as they stay on the show longer, and have a cap of $295k in maximum earnings per season. Pros/Dancers start at $1,250 per episode and returning pros can make up to $5,200 an episode. Earnings for pros for a given season are capped at $100k. Judges started at $250k per episode, can get up to $1.2M per season. As host, Tom Bergeron got about $150 per episode, or about $1.8 per season for longer ones.

I know two of them (Green, for the same reason, and Olivia Jade, thanks to her mother [Lori Laughlin] cheating to get Olivia and her sister into USC).

BTW I was a semi loyal 90210 (the original series) viewer for a while, and I had a nickname for Green: the BAGman. :) Iykwim.

Suni Lee and Iman Shumpert are the only two I really recognize. DWTS is another one of those "waste of videotape" programs IMO.

They still use videotape??
I wouldn't be surprised if they do, as it is consistent. I couldn't find much online about this, however it appears that they do for the backstage rehearsals or what have you. Also, yes on that Huey Lewis tribute band :)
