As I posted on the National board, I'm beyond excited about seeing this tonight.

It has been announced that all 1,225 episodes will be released on a 131 DVD collection on April 10 with a butt load of features.

Oddly enough, there was a "Dark Shadows" clue on tonight's "Jeopardy!" show. Spooky, or what?!

Yes, I say that on Jeopardy and thought the same thing.

Johnny Depp will probably make a good Barnabas.......if they don't make him too goth and dark.

i hope that tim burton keeps dark shadows close to the original.that he does not go overboard in the settings and atmosphere.

Re: DARK SHADOWS FANS: TONITE 10PM ON TCM - 1970'S "HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS" MOVIE

I have four or five episodes of Dark Shadows that were taped off Sci-Fi in the mid-90s in reruns. Actually, that tape had a "Dalziel & Pascoe" mystery taped off A&E that takes up about 2 hours, then Dark Shadows starts.

The movie had a few comic book like elements. I can see where a remake could improve the
storyline.

I thought a few of the original Dark Shawdows shows were lost missing......is that true?

Re: DARK SHADOWS FANS: TONITE 10PM ON TCM - 1970'S "HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS" MOVIE

I think the only one that is lost and has no original tape left is episode #1219, however someone recorded the audio portion of it. Cable reruns used video stills to fill up the episode slot.

The first few moments of "House of Dark Shadows" and the credits sequence were matted while everything in between was displayed full screen. The last time Turner Classic Movies presented "House of Dark Shadows", the whole movie was displayed full screen.

I noticed that too. Talked to a friend about it, and he said that was the copy that was given to them to broadcast last night. I was hoping that it would of been all widescreen, but I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth.

As for the lost episodes, this quote comes from the Dark Shadows fan page:

A number of shows are lost on their original two-inch videotapes, and are only retained as inferior 16mm black and white film copies. Because of this, certain colour episodes no longer air in colour. Only one episode of Dark Shadows (#1219) does not exist in either form. The episode has been reconstructed for home video using still images, surviving reprise material and an off-air copy of the original soundtrack.

So, I wonder, when the movie comes out, and it becomes a hit (if it becomes a hit) and there is a new generation of "Dark Shadows" fans who never seen the original show before. What they will think of the campy show when they actually see it? The very visible goofs... the actors forgetting their lines... the very non-special effects. Those are some of the reasons why I love the show. They tried, and they produced a pretty good product for the time, especially for the very strict time and financial restraints they had on them.

As long as Johnny Depp is not sparkling, I think I will give the movie a chance. But if he's sparkling I'm walking out and asking for my money back. If I was Tim Burton, I would of have the cast and crew watch most of the episodes so they can get a feel of the characters they will be playing instead of bringing their own style into it. (Just my opinion.)

Apparently, Johnny Depp's a fan of the original show. He's a year older than I, so he's old enough to have caught the original run as it went out, and actually remember it. I was seven when it went off, and I remember it. He often channels another person's style to fill a role (Angela Lansbury in "Murder, She Wrote" for "Sleepy Hollow", Keith Richards in, well, *life* for "Pirates", ) so I hope for this one he channels Jonathan Frid.

Then again, it could just be PR hooey.

Oh, and according to the Wikipedia page for the upcoming movie, it turns out that, "In June 2011, Jonathan Frid, Lara Parker, David Selby and Kathryn Leigh Scott all spent three days at Pinewood Studios to film cameo appearances."

So that's kinda good...

Unlike last night's broadcast of "House of Dark Shadows", Turner Classic Movies had displayed the entire movie open matte during previous broadcasts. The latest broadcast had the movie cropped from all sides in between the opening credits and the closing credits.

Here is a link to a message board with an image from the open matte version compared to an image from the cropped version broadcast last night.

Re: DARK SHADOWS FANS: TONITE 10PM ON TCM - 1970'S "HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS" MOVIE

Both the "House" and "Night" movies starred original cast members but their storylines had little, if anything, to do with the daytime series. Anyone know if the new movie is supposed to resemble the original series plot?

I didn't get hooked on Dark Shadows until long after Barnabas entered the picture. They say that was a whole year after the show's premier in 1966. What kind of show was it in that first year? Any good at all? I read they introduced Barnabas basically to save it because of lousy ratings.

What was the reason the revival series starring Ben Cross never caught on?
