Dave FM: Michelle Engel out, no sign of Neil Millman

You know what's really sad about this ... Here's a PD at a top 10 market with about 3 years on the job..... she gets fired (as she should have) AND...... no one cares.... at least if you go by the number of replys to the initial posting.... she must have either had little or no impact or REALLY pissed off those in the market

Looking in from the outside, it’s seems that radio is a brutal business that eats it’s own. A fickle audience or suits from a corporate office can make or break anyone at any time. Sometimes things happen for no apparent reason and there is no shortage of listeners like me who criticize every move.

We eat our own, true. Especially if they suck. Michelle had a big budget and full control to create her vision of dave fm. Remember that she was pregramming the launch before Rick Caffee had the spine to tell the previous PD that he was out of a job. It hit the radio trades and forced him to launch early and fire all but one of the airstaff. So, CBS gave up the classic rock/classic hits position in the market to let Michelle create her dream of a AAA for Atlanta. Not only did she fail to create the ratings, but she screwed over the sales team along the way, costing them their jobs while promising success right around the corner. There are few saddened to see her get the same boot as the guy that she pushed out by promising success.

Meanwhile, Cox flips a hip/hop station with a bad city signal to classic hits, no jocks and kicks her fat bottom all ever the ratings with most of the same music Z93 would have been playing without her.

Success has many parents. Failure is an orphant. She had her shot and missed. Don't worry for her. There's plenty of room for mediocrity in our business. She'll pop up soon somewhere else.
