David Gold- Dallas/Miami talk veteran - on 1040-WWBA

You guys are wacked if you think filling a station with more syndicated programming is the answer.

I'm sure the producer and call screener in the 3-6 p.m. slot agrees with the decision as well.
 
Hmmm...just got back from Gold's website. He said Dennis Miller will be doing the show for the next two weeks and that there had been a "change in plans." The WWBA online poll had been hovering around 50-50 for its duration; a pretty lukewarm response. Not quite enough for the decision-makers at WWBA, apparently.
 
Polls aren't always accurate. That one didn't restrict multiple voting.

Given all the enthusiasm I'm reading here, I guess what others have told me about this discussion site is correct: threads here are populated by radio low lifes, has beens, and wannabes who can't be taken seriously because all they do is complain and bad-mouth people.

No Don, it’s not. I wish David well. I am sure in a market with old people he will do well if he can get a job.

I do hope 1040 gets good local talent someday. It would be nice. I do not listen to the Mj & BJ afternoon morning show on FLA and it would be nice to have a real local show. I was starting to enjoy Brian. He truly was working on making his show better.

Maybe Jeff Fisher would be interested in a shot over at 1040. That would be cool.
 
Since Miller announced WWBA as an affiliate, I assume this is a long term deal. I think 1040 has given up on local talk in p.m. drive for the foreseeable future. They had their one good chance at building a local talk franchise in the afternoon with Fasulo and it failed miserably, because they picked the wrong guy -- an out of work TV guy with a limited grasp of the issues and little desire for the microphone -- instead of scouring the country for the best, hungriest radio talent available at a price they could afford. I doubt they can afford a second chance. Also, I can't imagine why anyone established from 970 or any other radio station would at this juncture want to leave their mother ships for Cap'n Crunch's dinghy.

Gold had the right content for the 1040 audience. But his voice was screwed up, his pace was too 1982, and Genesis probably couldn't afford his price. In short, there was too much water under the dam for Genesis to hire him. My bet is they took Miller because they needed to cut costs -- immediately.
 
Miller is a comedian. I dont see him doing this forever. Actually, his show was pretty good yesterday. I enjoyed someone who doesnt rant ant rant about politics. Miller actually talked about other fun stuff. Hannity has worn thin.

Agreed about Schnitt. I can't stand to listen.
Fasulo was doing better. I have no idea why he left. I only heard that it was voluntary.

Miller did do well, but was a more lighthearted look at politics.
Hannity I can't stand and won't listen to the Bush mouthpiece.

If WWBA permenantly fills the p.m. slot with syndicated programming, I may have to go to Michael Medved or to satellite.
