Dear Mr. Parks, Listeners don't care about ratings and revenue, only you do.

Why do you pound on and on that it matters to us listeners?

All we see is a dial and who we want to listen to.

Well, without ratings and revenue, radio can not continue to be free. If you care about your local radio stations staying in business, I'd keep that fact in mind.

Exactly right and true for every business including so called non profits. If you are not taking in more than you pay out, you are gone.

I see the point Brian65 is making. Yeah we all understand ratings and revenue are very important, but it's not something the average listener cares about, they just press a button and expect Mike and Willie. Ratings and revenue are kind of inside baseball.

Ratings and Revenue are different in that the station could be #1 and have declining revenue. I wonder if WLW is hurting for $$?

It matters to keep the station on the air and free, yes, but the average listener doesn't know or give a hoot about ratings. That's what this web site is for. brian65, yes, I see your point here.
WLW ain't what it once was...so if they were hurting for $$$ it wouldn't surprise me. I'm sure it doesn't help that the AM band is dying more by the day.

Well, it doesn't just boil down to ratings...it boils down to demographics.

Most AM stations have few, if any, listeners under the age of 40. Admittedly, I have not recently seen
demo breakouts on WLW, but one could assume that, in at least some respects, they're showing some signs
of what the business calls "greying". And, if so that's the bigger issue.

If your audience gets "too old" (in the minds of advertisers), they don't buy you...or...they demand lower rates. Both would have a negative effect on the revenue picture, obviously. And certainly would stress any AM station PD.

Why have "oldies" stations largely gone away? Either they became classic hits (60's/70's/80's) to lower their demos, or they switched. Same reason.

AM radio ain't getting any younger...and neither is its' audience.

And young people get older and their tastes can change.

I don't know the demos these days but I did not listen to WLW when I was in my 20s. Then one day I was not in my 20s.

It happens to everyone but when you are young you think that never happens or that things don't change.

Ratings seem to always be a story whether TV, radio of the the boxoffice in movies. I am sure insiders understand it better but the public does show interest.

I'm a daily listener to WLW and I haven't heard them bragging about ratings or revenue, so it must be low key enough that it's only bothering some minority of radio people. And I don't mind it if it's kept that way. Let them toot their own horn--listeners like to know their favorite station is a winner.

It can be overdone though. I get irritated, for example, when O'Reilly constantly talks about the huge ratings whipping Fox gives to MSNBC and CNN. I don't mind him saying it--I just think it's overdone.

Average listener here,

I haven't listened to WLW since they started making Bohemian Rhapsody references. I might become mildly interested on the day after I read that they finally went dark.

It is mostly one of Parks' bits for his Saturday show along with if you vote for a school levy, you are stupid or don't let the facts get in the way of a good story.

To a certain extent he is sort of in satire mode telling us that the shows are satire.

They are putting out entertainment to make a buck and not truly advancing a cause or doing a public service even though some people think the point of talk radio is some sort of political conspiracy.
