Debbie Reynolds, Spirited Star of 'Singin' in the Rain,' Dies at 84

I suspect a great number of those inquiries are because the vast majority of people were not alive when Reynolds achieved her big break in the 1950's and/or have only foggy memories of the Fisher/Reynolds/Taylor event. I am 72 and just barely remember it.
I am the same way. I turned 53 last month, and just about my only real "memory" of Debbie Reynolds was when "Tammy" was the #1 song on a special American Top 40 countdown of the top 40 songs dedicated to women. It was the summer of '77 and I was 13 at the time. Still remember the song, and watched a youtube of it this morning.

HBO Moves ‘Bright Lights’ Debut In Wake of Carrie Fisher, Debbie Reynolds Deaths

HBO announced this morning it will move up the debut of Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds to Saturday, January 7 at 8 PM, in light of this week’s deaths of Fisher and Reynolds. The documentary is an intimate portrait of the mother and daughter who lived in the same Beverly Hills compound. In the docu, 83-year-old Reynolds still has a Las Vegas act, but performing is taking its toll, and Fisher’s response HBO describes as “hilarious and heart-rending.”

That is in addition to HBO’s previous announcement it will encore the 2010 special Wishful Drinking on New Year’s Day, January 1 at 9 PM ET/PT. The feature-length adaptation of Carrie Fisher’s autobiographical stage production combines Fisher’s one-woman stage performance, interviews with family and friends, and archival footage.

Apparently this happened.

Ryan — who is just 23 — addressed the confusion on Twitter, sending out a message that read, "No... guys, that's very thoughtful but it's Reynolds. Debbie Reynolds..."

Fans of Ryan were shocked that people could confuse the much-younger star for Reynolds - but it was clearly a name mix-up.

Ryan — who starred in Disney shows like "Jessie" and "The Suite Life on Deck" — uses the Twitter handle "DebbyRyan," while Reynolds went by "DebbieReynolds1" on the social media site.

Reynolds — a singer and actress who starred in "Singin' in the Rain" and "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" — died on Wednesday night, just one day after her daughter, "Star Wars" icon Carrie Fisher, died.

"My mom is with my sister," Todd Fisher told the Daily News Wednesday evening, breaking down in tears.

"She wanted to be with her. She always took care of her," he added. "That's all I can say right now."

Reynolds was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday night while discussing Carrie's funeral arrangements with Todd. She was pronounced dead a few hours later.

Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher to be buried together

Debbie Reynolds' son said Friday his mother and sister, actress Carrie Fisher, will have a joint funeral and will be buried together.

Todd Fisher said the actresses will be interred at Forest Lawn-Hollywood Hills, the final resting place of numerous celebrities, including Lucille Ball, Dick Van Patten, Liberace, Florence Henderson, David Carradine and Bette Davis.

The son said no date for the funeral has been set, but it will be private. A public memorial is being contemplated, but no plans have been finalized.

Broadway Will Dim Marquee Lights For Debbie Reynolds & Carrie Fisher

The marquees of Broadway theaters will be dimmed for one minute tomorrow at 7:45 P.M. in memory of Carrie Fisher, who died December 27 at age 60, and her mother, Debbie Reynolds, who died the next day, at age 84.

Mother and daughter both made their Broadway debuts in 1973 in a “revisal” of the 1919 musical Irene, for which Reynolds, in the title role, was nominated for the Tony award for leading actress in a musical. Reynolds later appeared in Woman Of The Year, following Lauren Bacall and Raquel Welch in the title role. She also appeared in a musical revue, Debbie, and toured the U.S. in Annie Get Your Gun and The Unsinkable Molly Brown.

Fisher wrote and most recently appeared on Broadway in the original solo show Wishful Drinking. Her additional Broadway credits include Agnes Of God and Censored Scenes From King Kong.
