Deep 'DLW

During Morning Drive, WDLW played a pre-recorded announcement that coming up now was a Deep Track.
They weren't lying. They played the Bluesy rock song, "The Jack" by AC/DC. "The Jack" is Australian for the venereal disease gonorrhea. I've heard other, what I would call, deep tracks on "The Kool Kat" that didn't have a special sweep played before them, so this is something new.

Additionally, another sweep said that the station plays the 60s, 70's and (some of) the 80's. This would mean that even essential Rock from the 1950s is no longer aired.

WMMS used to play "The Jack" by AC/DC fairly often in the mid to late 1970s as I recall. I think that I recently heard it on WNCX or maybe WONE. I am still not impressed with this more recent version of WDLW. Too classic rock/classic hits which I can get on 5 other stations and in better sound quality.

WOBL and WDLW have become emaciated jukeboxes running on autopilot. It's really sad to see how ill-prepared Gary Tollett has been as an owner.

I know a few people still there (not sure if one of them survived the downsizing last month) and feel bad for them.

You are correct about the apparent classic rock/AOR orientation of the station now. This morning (01/09/2025) I heard WDLW play "Immigrant Song" by Led Zeppelin, although to be honest, that was a Top 40 hit as well. But, a bit after afternoon drive, they played something I had no idea what it was. It started out as a Fusion Jazz-Rock instrumental song until the vocals finally came in. At that point it became pure AOR.

Nikki originally did middays on WOBL before going into sales and then moved to mornings on WDLW.

David Q. was the midday host on WDLW and is now the sole news reader after the previous news readers (including former WOIO reporter Denise Zarella) got tossed.

The weekend hosts, from what I had been told once, pay their own way.

The two speciality shows on Saturday morning (Vinyl Garage and The Beatle Show) bring their own advertizers on board. By the way, both shows are very good, as compared to the rest of the station which has devolved into a common classic rock station featuring music that I can hear on 5 other stations in stereo (DLW FM is mono) and with clear signals.
