Dumber Than A Box of Hair -
[EDIT]:
Casablance quotes:
"he said he was 12thin his time slot across the dial which means he is near the bottom of the rating pool...and drowning."
GOV. DUMMMER RESPONDS:
Sticking to FACTS (even when they interfere with your obvious agenda), 12th out of 34 rated stations is not "near the bottom."
REALITY:
12th place on WRKO, a powerhouse AM station, is awful. "34 rated stations", Worcester's WXLO, Worcester's WAAF, Lawrence/Boston's MIKE FM, Framingham's WROR. Fact is DePetro is in a major market with a signal that has the potential to be #1. The Herald said he was in 18th place - maybe that was the winter book and - golly gee - he's gone up to #12 in the Spring book.
Bottom line is mid-day IS an important revenue generating component of any major station and jocks that attempt to skew it in their favor by saying Afternoon Drive and Morning Drive are the be-all, end-all are...well, skewed (and showing how defensive they are, something that rhymes with skewed)

Hit #1 on a Sunday night and jerks come out and say "Oh, big deal a Sunday night." Well, #1 is #1 and a
LOT better than #18 or #12 during mid-day when, clearly, the competition isn't as tough as Morning Drive
or Afternoon Drive.
A decent producer and a talented talk host should be able to get in the Top 8 on WRKO with 50,000 watts - and that's without trying. With a little promotion, some billboards (if the host warrants them), some contests, some sizzle and some steak, mid-day WRKO should be in the Top 3.
When a Top jock from WZLX moves to another signal, say a Lawrence signal, and the staff implements a promo machine behind that host, yes, you can hit #1 on a Sunday night.
When a dull, lackluster individual from a little pond of Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, with a lousy voice, gets thrown into the big sea of Boston radio, those ratings are not going to be automatic.
Dumber than a Box of Hair knows that #12 for WRKO is absolutely awful. Now Jason & Julie have to huddle
with the advertising crew and come up with a scheme to sell the inventory. Wouldn't it be more prudent to hire real talent, promote the heck out of the show, and make the salesguy's job easier? Not every sales person can get the afternoon drive jock to leave the mother of his kids so she can have some security. Most of them work for a living. John DePetro must make their lives miserable by his failure to achieve ratings goals.
#12? Maybe they should've sent DePetro to a bigger state - like Vermont (go use the F word up there, John), y'know Triple A or Pawtucket before putting him in the big leagues.
John DePetro on WRKO is like having Charlie Chaplin play for The Red Sox. Only Charlie Chaplin had talent.
