Derek Daly sues WISH-TV & Nexstar over connections to a racial slur scandal.

the lawsuit filed by Derek Daly, a former race car driver who raced in the IndyCar series predecessor's CART as well as Formula 1 in the 1970s and 1980s alleges he was fired for using the N word in a comment made in 1983 which was later revealed he didn't say it. the scandal cost Daly his job at WISH and cost his son Connor, a second generation race car driver (currently racing in the IndyCar Series, but his 2019 season fate hasn't been revealed yet) his sponsorship deal with pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly and Company and it's Lilly Diabetes sponsorship for Connor's attempt to race in the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Road America in the #6 car for Roush Fenway Racing in 2018. the sponsorship was pulled during the actual race weekend, and it did more harm not only Connor but to Roush-Fenway Racing as the company decided to get out of sponsoring the Roush-Fenway #16 car of Ryan Reed (the full time regularly sponsored by Lilly driver) in the Xfinity Series (coupled with the season-wide struggles of Roush-Fenway's Xfinity Series program where the #60 car was driven by several drivers in the 2018 season that would constantly get into accidents during races in the series though out the season and having sponsorship issues) would result in Roush Fenway ending it's Xfinity Series program to solely focus on the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series teams they owned as well as the Roush-Yates engines (a partnership between RFR and Doug Yates, the son of former NASCAR Team owner and engine builder Robert Yates, who race cars were Fords as well as Roush Racing/Roush Fenway Racing in NASCAR.) that every Ford team races with in NASCAR's premiere series and secondary series.

this impacted motor sports more then it did the news industry, especially in the Indianapolis market, which the Indianapolis market is well known for the Indy 500 and the race track it's held it, Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana.
