Detroit's Sports Rap Radio Ceases Operations As WXYT-AM Returns To "The Bet" Programming

I weep for what Wixie has become. This is the station of The Lone Ranger, Challenge of the Yukon, The Green Hornet, Mickey Schorr, Joey Reynolds, Joel Sebastian... And now sports betting.
almost everything you mention is 50+ years ago, are you like over 80 years old.

I am 56 (certainly not young) and don't recall any of what you are talking about on that station.

it's not 1959 anymore

I am not that old. I do have an interest in radio history. Ironically, 1959 is when Chuck Fritz began the decline and fall of Wixie. Radio once had class, air talent with actual talent. Sports gambling doesn't qualify.

To you. That does not mean there is not abundant talent, just because it doesn’t appeal to you, or me, or whoever.
I am sure there are still people with unique and outstanding talent but either they don't go into radio or if they do they don't attract the kind of audiences and attention of earlier radio stars and they certainly don't get people talking around water coolers like before. To not take it back too far, there's no Howard Stern, no I-man, no Rush, no J.P. Nobody even comes close.

They were products of their time. No one, including them, would do in today’s world what they did then in no small measure because of the plethora of choices available now not available then. That is not an indictment of them or anyone else.
