In Madonna's case, I'm just wondering if it's a backlash against some of her outrageous behavior. I have always liked Madonna's music, and her ability to reinvent her sound for each new album she comes out with. But lets face it, she is not well liked by many for her constant mocking of religion, and her outrageous stage shows. And I admit, I don't like supporting people that behave like that.
Having said that though, it is her music that ultimately makes her money, and she's excellent at keeping her music sound fresh. So I have enjoyed most of her music over the years, with the exception of her Erotica album. The question that should be asked however, is who is responsible for her lack of US airplay. Is it really a widespread public boycott of her, or is it the powers that be that run radio (cough, cough, Clear Channel anyone?!)?
If it is Clear Channel that is behind the lack of airplay, against public opinion, then that is just not right considering the oppressive junk that gets played on an hourly basis on Clear Channel stations everyday! I am proud to say I am conservative in my views, but I do have a problem with a so-called conservative company in Clear Channel that won't play Madonna for her rightfully offensive behavior, and then turn around and play f-word filled rap music about sex and ho's every five minutes!
Then again maybe people in this country just aren't into dance music as much as people in other countries are. Most likely though, the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
