Diane Sawyer anchored ABC's World News on Friday 1/23/09

Diane Sawyer anchored ABC's World News on Friday. Thoughts on her performance or any notable things you noticed in the newscast?

Didn't see it.

But I will say, when I saw her on ABC's coverage of the presidential debates and on election night, she just always seemed giggly and added absolutely nothing to the broadcast while Chuck Gibson and George Stephanopolous carried the show each time.

I've been a fan of Diane Sawyer for a long time and loved her pairing with Charley Gibson on Good Morning America.

That being said, I agree. I watched/listened to ABC exclusively during the inauguration and was almost gushing during the broadcast. Maybe that's always been her style and I didn't notice it until now.

Brian4: Apparently you missed GMA's coverage of
1) "The Miracle on the Hudson"
2) The announcement of the Oscar nominees
3) consumer fraud alerts via Chris Cuomo

Unfortunately, I was at work when the broadcast aired. I'm sure she did a fine job, but she may have the same problem Couric did with the credibility thing on the evening side.

Nothing against her personally, but I can't stand to watch the woman.

Amen to that! To me Sawyer is just another in a long line of beauty queens that pretends to be news anchors.

I am not saying hire ugly people because television is a visual medium and let's be honest, some people do watch the news partly because the anchor might be good looking.

As for me I rather have someone with substance than looks report the news. And when I mean report I don't mean that to include injecting their own editorial opinions or making facial gestures when reporting on a story.

When Charlie Gibson is not anchoring, I watch Brian Williams. If they are both on vacation at the same time, then I watch CNN.

It's hard to imagine that you typed that with a straight face. There are a lot of women in the TV news game you could lob that dated accusation at, but Diane Sawyer isn't one of them.

Hey, Julius, why not tell us your thoughts and why you find it special that she was tapped to sub for Charlie.

I saw the newscast and it was just fine.

I thought she was fine too. I really don't have any special reason on why I started this thread.
