Yeah, but at least Biondi's doing it from a vertical position. Wolfman Jack (and for that matter John Doremus) are doing it horizontally.

Anyway, speaking as an ex Purple Pizza Paison, let me add my congratulations to the "Wild Nightralian". Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm on my way to the submarine races to try out a few new knock-knock jokes.
 
I worked with Dick in his Myrtle Beach days. As good as he is on the radio, he was even better in a "live" environment. Dick can work a crowd like nobody else. And while I could never emulate what Dick did on the air, I learned more from him just from watching him prepare and work.

Congratulations on a fantastic career!

small point but note: they were NOT 50 consecutive years in Chicago radio, he left town for the coast somewhere in the late 70's then came back ... but still an achievement.

...Dick left Chicago TWICE -- first in 1963, after quitting WLS for their infamously overselling spots during his program; that time he went to KRLA in Los Angeles (ABC corporate brass prevented WABC New York's local management from hiring him). While at KRLA, he also began a weekend show for the Mutual network that was picked up by WCFL, where he arrived back in Chi after KRLA cut him loose in 1967. When Larry Lujack was hired back by WCFL in 1972, Biondi abruptly quit, muttering something about the station being "not big enough for TWO legends"; after short gigs at WMAQ, WBZ Boston and WSAI Cincinnati, he started a ten-year association with WNMB North Myrtle Beach SC, later that year...

While Dick was in Myrtle Beach he continued to be heard from time to time on Chicago radio.
In 1976--77 he had a syndicated show "Super Gold Rock & Roll" that was carried on WFYR. In 1980
he had a Sunday morning show on WLUP. He also occasionally appeared on some of the WLS Anniversary specials during the 70s.

First of all, Congratulations to Dick, a true legend! I wish him all the best and hope he sticks around for
many years to come! I will definitely be listening to him on the "Big 89" Sunday night.

I was thinking as I was reading, that I remember Dick being on WBBM FM before he helped start Magic 104.

I'm I correct on that or am I thinking of someone else?

You are correct. He was on WBBM-FM in 1983 & 84 up until WJMK went on in Aug of 84.

...of course not -- you're supposed to keep running the play 'til you get it right! ;-) ...
 
For those outside Chicago but within range of WLS-AM, the program is on right now in C-QUAM stereo. I'm running a cassette of it. There's a significant delay between the AM and the FM signal-- probably on account of the HD on the FM side. C-QUAM sounds great, btw!
 
I'm doing an alignment of the 1972 car radio on the kitchen table. It's so cool to have on WLS and HAVE IT SOUND LIKE WLS!
Well, at least on the songs that have the built-in reverb.
Now I'm in the basement listening on the 1961 car radio / air studio monitor and it's even better.
Gosh, that's some pretty processing, and they sound like they're letting it fly up to 13 khz!
So much better than the rewound specials with ihash.
 
Sugar Sugar by the Archies is running REAL FAST, but has original pitch maintained!
It's literally dance-mad speed compared to the original....it would be like 53 rpm!
 
WHOA, Nellie, slow that thing down!

Last song after Dick's 'Goodinight Sweetheart', going into the real oldies network was the Four Tops "It's The Same Old Song",
was also in play-it-quick speed, with pitch absolutely correct.
Two thirds of the way through, my wife 's and my ears cocked up like dogs ears do, when it gradually SLOWED DOWN to normal speed,
still maintaining perfect pitch throughout! No artifacting or any other side effect except the time span. Very freaky if you
happened to be listening closely.

Oh well, it's back to coast-to-coast and the talk monster. Thing is, they don't sound nearly as huge with this coast to coast
audio. They sound pretty sad. That must be just how bad the audio provided really is...cause it sure gives no indication
the station could sound anything like I just heard in the past few hours.
