Dick Smythe, legendary news personality at CKLW, CHUM and elswehere

DIck Smythe was one of the original CKLW 20-20 Newscasters, and his understudy, Byron MacGregor, took his chair (Smythe was critical of the blood and guts style The Big 8 became famous for in the early 70s). Smythe covered the 1967 Detroit riots for CKLW and won awards, and is heard broadcasting from the Harrow, Ontario transmitter site the night of the Great Tower Caper, where a disgrunted hockey fan tried to topple the CKLW-TV tower, which caused the studios to be evacuated,
