DID ANY OF THE WRKO MUSIC-ERA DJs IMPRESS YOU?

I'm just curious if anyone who grew up listening to WRKO with a music format (1967 'til ??) remembers specific DJs that impressed them by their style, delivery, etc., so that they stood out from the seemingly endless stream of those who went in and out of the "Big 68"?

I know that many would give Dale Dorman as a response, but that is too obvious. Others (J.J. Wright and Mike Addams) remained around these parts and have worked at other stations.

Does anybody even remember some of the names? Do the names Joel Cash, Tony Mann, Eric Chase, Dave Michaels, Gary Martin, Chuck Knapp, John Rode, Kris Phillips, Jon Powers, Melody McShane, Tim Kelly, Gary Matthews, Al Gates, J. J. Jordan, J. J. Jeffrey, Bobby Mitchell, Tom Kennedy, Chip Hobart, etc (the list is endless!) mean anything? Will anybody ever know that any of these people worked in Boston at one time?

Yes, I especially enjoyed the Dale Dorman show! Every time I went to school in the morning(or was down the beach in the summer), I used to hear Dale in the morning. He started the day off with comedy and weird phone calls, especially ones he got from Mrs. J.
And of course, when Johnny Williams was on the all night shift, he sometimes ended up his show with the Moody Blues singing "Tuesday Afternoon" and seuging into "Evening, Time To Get Away." Those were the days!

How about The truly amazing Johnny Dark.I also listened to him on wNNNbc.For those who never listened to WNBC in their Top 40 days, they over emphasised the "N"when saying the call letters.
Charlie Van Dyke & Jordan Rich really clicked well together.

I second Andy's praise for Charlie Van Dyke/Jordan Rich - great morning radio!
I will add Mike Addams doing the top 5 at 9 nights back in the 70s. "I Only Wanna Be With You" by the Bay City Rollers was the number 1 requested song for a good stretch. There were a couple of Mike Addams but I think it's the same one with Magic today.
Another thought - always thought it was strange that the big 68 never did a bumper sticker contest (at least that I had memory of).

Didn't they have bumper stickers with their "hot car" campaign with Ch.7 (IIRC, airing reports of stolen cars).

And Arnie (WooWoo) Ginsburg made a brief appearance from the start. Maybe two weeks if I recall.

Charlie Tuna?

on RKO? Maybe on 'MEX.

If I remember correctly, he was on WMEX for a few years and was PD for a short time, but I think he may have also done a short stint on WRKO.

You're right! Charlie was on WMMMMM-X for a while, but he spelled his name 'T-u-n-a-h', possibly for some legal reason as Starkist had a spokestuna by the same name.

I remember a lot of great voices on WRKO, but frankly not of "personality". Dale and others in the morning were sort of the exception, but being a Drake station, the RKO jocks were pretty minimalist, based on Drake's theory that local top 40 radio was too talky, and the playists were too long. I always admired Drake for his sense of production. His stations sounded great and were trim and lean. But, like with food, some fat adds flavor, and I don't think his stations were all that flavorful either with personalities or music.
