Did anybody else hear what Dr. Lockhart said on ER about Lubbock?

"I better think of something quick I'm going to end up working in Lubbock!"

Yes, she really said that, just about 10 mins ago on ER. Sounds like an insult to me!
Someone should send the producers of ER a letter or something.

Or something?

Hey, the truth hurts. Lubbock is a hole in the God-Forsaken side of the earth...

Yes I have, so Its the 2nd biggest hole next to lubbock ;)

I'll take that Lubbock "hole" anyday. What you consider to be a piece of crap, we here call it "Yankee Repellant". I have all I need here from shopping, dining, entertainment and medical...without the friggin' traffic. Hey, if you've lived here and don't anymore, We here are frankly glad you're gone. If you have friends here and they want to leave, give them my number and I will gladly help them pack and drive them out of town.

Wow, somebody who doesnt get sarcasm..;)

Ya know, I hear you, Pratt, and Ryno say that a lot and I sure hope that it just means traffic and crowdedness. Because if you mean "people from the Northeast repellant" this is very unfair and not at all amusing. I can't change we're I'm from.

And by the way, if by "Yankee Repellant" you mean "Yankees Fans," well that's fine with me :p

Maybe we are just too stupid to come up with a better term for it, but basically refers to any one who has to come here either for school or a short term stepping stone type of job and has nothing but bad things to say and can't wait to get out.

Fair enough! ;)

I'd ask that we come up with a better word, but then I'd be accused of trying to be "politically correct."

I just think they should draw a line from east of Wichita Falls, west of Austin ,east of San Antonio to Brownsville and trade the western half to Mexico for 250 years of cheap oil. therefore the unemployment rate would be cut in half, gas prices would go down, and Dubya would be an illegal immigrant;)

Obviously, you've never been to West Texas. I am originally from Lubbock and an extremely proud graduate of Texas Tech University.

Never in my life have I seen a more beautiful sunset than in West Texas and I have traveled to many parts of the world. Granted, Lubbock isn't exact full of scenery, yet there is an odd beauty about how flat everything is out there.

I would much rather live in Lubbock than Amarillo or the Midland/Odessa area. At least we have a very large University in the city which brings in a great deal of revenue, plus many different cultures to Lubbock. Another great thing about Lubbock and all of West Texas. No humidity. I about died when I moved to the DFW area, due to the humidity. Could not make it down in the swamp known as Houston.

I visited Lubbock back a few years ago for a media presentation there and I enjoyed the city much and I liked my day trip to the KLBK/KAMC studios there. Nice city for its size, and I liked it better than Amarillo, while Texas Tech in my opinion seemed a better campus than UTEP in El Paso. I wouldn't worry too much about some show poking fun at it, I'm sure if they had said Omaha you would have probably chuckled.

Lubbock will always be home for me and I love Texas Tech very much, as well.

What is really strange is that years and years ago, Channel 13 had both the CBS and the ABC network feeds in the late 60's and possibly 70's.

Bill McAlister and his father, who used to be a State Senator, owned KSEL radio and they started KSEL TV and it became a ABC affiliate on Channel 28. They finally changed the name to KMCC and then KAMC became the call letters. Bill died, I think from a heart attack. So now that KLBK and KAMC have merged together again, the circle becomes complete.

I still don't understand why one company would own two competiting network stations in the same market and don't understand why the FCC would allow it???

Lubbock is FAR superior to Amarillo and Midland/Odessa. And the airport at Lubbock is similar the design of the circular terminals at DFW Airport.

I've never been to Lubbock, but know several people who have lived there.
One was a girl who went to Tech and wound up being an executive with Verizon in the Dallas area. She went back to Lubbock often to visit and watch football.

The other was a girl from the Houston area who worked in Dallas for a while. Her husband actually did his medical residency in Lubbock. They stayed there several years and enjoyed it quite a bit. They were in no hurry to leave. He ultimately got a better job offer in the Houston area so they moved. However, they too go back to visit quite often.

It sounds to me like it must be a pretty good place to live. A knock on ER is just ignorance or jealousy talking.

Sine ER is going off the air, I think it would be a nice switch to have a medical drama based in a fictional medical center in Lubbock. Don't you think?

What about tornadoes? You can't base a show in Lubbock without tornadoes!
