Did Anyone Catch Last Night's Episode of Family Guy?

If you truly want to see a bad Family Guy episode, look at the I Dream of Jesus episode earlier this season. Half of the show was Peter singing Surfing Bird and the other half was just blasphemey.
Yeah, the "Surfin Bird" clips were overplayed-- probably taking up 3 minutes or so-- like this last Twitty clip. 3 minutes is 1/8th of the whole show. Seems like the writers are becoming very very very very very very very very very very very very dependent on clips for filler! ;D

If you truly want to see an offensive Family Guy episode, just watch Seth try to make 9/11 refernces sound funny (like on Tales of a Third Grade Nothing and James Woods steals Peter's Identity episodes). Now that was truly tasteless.

Oddly enough, MacFarlane claims he was supposed to be on one of the 9/11 planes, but for some reason missed the flight.

Because he had a speaking engagement of sorts at a college in Rhode Island before. My guess is that he got wasted afterwards and an assistant messed up when booking a flight for him. I don't know if that's entirely true. Who really knows?

Did anyone catch last night's Family Guy when Lois worked at FOX News? How many knew when Lois ran out of the FOX News studios after she got hired what was comming next? Uncreative.

I thought it was a clever episode. McFarlane had a lot of fun with Fox News, and I see this as further proof that the "conservative" Rupert Murdoch is determined to keep his hands off content of Fox scripted programming.

One example: After talk by Brian that Fox News is a biased tool of the Republicans, and are virtual Nazis, he accuses the Fox News producer of having relatives involved in the Holocaust. The producer assures Lois and Brian that his family wasn't Jewish - but that they were "there" at the Death Camp. Ouch.

To be honest, I feared worse from last night's episode! It almost seemed like McFarlane was attempting to be even-handed in some small way, even trapping Brian in hypocrisy at one point. All in all, it was a reasonably amusing episode - particularly when the Fox news 'babe' was "revealed" by HDTV! Pretty funny, as there's a newswoman here in the Chicago area who looks good in SD and not so good in HD! ;)

Remember, the Simpson's also dedicated an episode to doing a hatchet job on Fox News and they were actually nastier. Now, if we would only see one of these guys have fun with the unbridled liberalism that passes as programming over at PMSNBC!

I thought that was funny. Usually it is Peter in the Charlie Bucket "I've got the golden ticket" run home run. Lois holding her boob and rocking back and forth was hilarious.

Last week, Seth McFarline appeared on Countdown on MSNBC. Keith Olbermann is a big fan of "Family Guy", and was a guest voice a few seasons ago, playing an oil executive out to buy off Mayor Lois Griffin (same episode with the 9/11 comments).

Both "The Simpsons" and "Family Guy" are so popular ("Family Guy" was cancelled and brought back) that they can do almost anything, even bashing a sister property. And yes...the viewers tend to be more liberal...and would watch MSNBC over Fixed Noise.

I hate being critical of Family Guy, because I love the show so much, but while last night's episode was not as bad as the last few episodes, it still felt like it was missing something. There were lots of funny things in it, but it just didn't seem to tie together that well. I can't put my finger on it, it just didn't agree with me. They need to cut down on running gags and do some original things. I know McFarlane is capable of it!

On the other hand, American Dad last night was an absolute amazing program. I just loved it.

Trip, you're absolutely right on both counts! Last night's FG was missing a bit of the "magic" that makes it one of my favorite shows. It wasn't as lacking as the previous one, but still not one of McFarlane's best. And, he is a damn talented guy!

Yet American Dad was excellent. In fact, it was the best show of the evening, though KOTH was very good too. Last night's Simpsons was okay, but just okay. American Dad keeps improving while Family Guy has been languishing a bit.

That's what I was talking about with that comment.

I know that is what you were referring to. I thought that it was Lois is what made it funny to me. Had it been Peter again, it would not have been.
