Did anyone see "Jeopardy" or "Wheel of Fortune" on Election Day?

I didn't ("Jeopardy" in my case), and it's not right. I didn't bother to call either of the stations because the last time I did it (when the candidates for governor debated) was after the fact and I was told they did air them in the middle of the night. But considering they sometimes go all night as in the case of Bush vs. Gore, I didn't think that was possible.

The people in charge should just not make an episode for that day because most markets air the show during the time election coverage was happening. They should just have a rerun for those other markets.

And if tonight is anything like four years ago, I'm lucky to have two choices because they'll probably waste time on NBC News going over by a half-hour. Last time, though, I messed up setting my VCR to record. The other station which didn't air it at its usual time did have daily reruns and when the time came I recognized the "Final Jeopardy" that I had actually recorded. This year I made sure. I have someplace to be during the "Jeopardy" episode tonight, as I did four years ago.

Re: Did anyone see "Jeopardy" or "Wheel of Fortune" on Election Day?

A few independent stations run Wheel & Jeopardy as well. They can't be slighted.

Some markets might put the two shows on a subchannel, or a sister station, if they have one, if something important is to air. Also, some markets air these shows in the afternoons. Putting a repeat episode wouldn't work there, either.

I am not sure if the producers would know exactly what date that certain episodes are to go to air, either.

Oh, sure they do. They know when it's Halloween. There are one or more appropriate categories.

I don't know if you can really make a right/wrong moral argument out of that one.

Is it 'right' to feed you Wheel and Jeopardy every night in the first place? That's where your moral argumentation should originate.
If you mess up setting your DVR anyway, it's alllllllllllllllllll moot.

Re: Did anyone see "Jeopardy" or "Wheel of Fortune" on Election Day?

I recorded Jeopardy. It comes on in Memphis at 3:30 PM on WREG CBS 3. For some odd reason, Jeopardy and Wheel are on different stations here. Wheel is on WMC NBC 5, and it did not air because of the election. What is stupid is that they aired a Paid Program at 2 AM and could have shown Wheel then. Wheel is almost always going to be on at either 6 or 6:30 PM in Central and Mountain and at 7 or 7:30 PM in Eastern and Pacific. Jeopardy is almost always paired with Wheel in Eastern and Pacific, but it often comes on earlier in Central and Mountain.

Re: Did anyone see "Jeopardy" or "Wheel of Fortune" on Election Day?

Jeopardy...yes (on at 4:30 on KARE11 NBC)
Wheel....no (on at 6:30 on WCCO4 CBS)

Re: Did anyone see "Jeopardy" or "Wheel of Fortune" on Election Day?

Jeopardy! and Wheel didn't air last night here in Los Angeles (KABC), instead going with election coverage from 4pm to past 11pm. I would imagine that both shows will air a day behind, with the Friday episodes airing either Saturday after the primetime college football game or sometime Sunday. That's what usually happened back when ABC had Monday Night Football.

Re: Did anyone see "Jeopardy" or "Wheel of Fortune" on Election Day?

Wheel is being pre-empted here again tonight! Both CBS and NBC are having an extended newscast, so whichever show is on at 7pm (Wheel in some cities, J! in others) will be pre-empted. ABC doesn't seem to be having special coverage.

That may have been true in the days where syndicated shows were "bicycled"; i.e., shown on different dates in different markets.

Nowadays I do not think that's the case. Both shows have websites, and also cross-promos on TV. Oh....add to that the Wheel Watcher contest where a winner at home has to contact the show.

Syndicated first-run game shows are kinda strict on the date of airing now, so that everybody sees the same episode anywhere in the US & Canada.

Also with the Internet, folk can chat to their friends about the day's show.

Thats the same for other ABC O&O's. But now that we are in the App Boom people can just watch Wheel and Jeopardy on their Phone and Tablet. I know in San Francisco all the Local Stations had 5 minute Local election updates at :25 and :55 on the hour before going back to the network.

Re: Did anyone see "Jeopardy" or "Wheel of Fortune" on Election Day?

I don't think that WPVI aired it at all. I don't think it even aired on their digital subchannels.

Re: Did anyone see "Jeopardy" or "Wheel of Fortune" on Election Day?

WDJT in Milwaukee aired them as usual, at 6pm and 6:30pm without any kind of political interruptions to speak of. For them it was definitely their lead-in and ratings factors in keeping them on at their usual time, while the other stations just plugged in election coverage of gimme states only the hardcore politicos followed before primetime. One station pre-empted "Dr. Oz" at 4pm with a 'special' newscast, which was just the usual 'why did you vote and who' live shot boringness and trying to get in weather and sports segments before the rest of the schedule was sucked up by the election.

of Course ABC O&O's had to go to ABC News election coverage.

Re: Did anyone see "Jeopardy" or "Wheel of Fortune" on Election Day?

Of course not; KOPB doesn't carry "Jeopardy" and "Wheel of Fortune". (That's KATU's thing.)

VCR, quad, not DVR. Remember whose post you're replying to!

OK, I like Jeopardy too. However, one day missed is hardly anything to get upset over. Especially if it is an important Presidential election.

BTW, what is is the ultimate future of this show? With Trebec set to retire, will this show maintain its popular status?
I guess it all depends on the new host. Or, perhaps the show is stronger than the host. Not sure at this point.

Alex Trebek is retiring? Hmm, I'd like to hear more about that...

I thought that was going to happen like it did in 2012. I was at a memorial service for a man who went to my church. But the NBC affiliate aired "Jeopardy" as usual at 7. Sadly, I messed up resetting my clock when Daylight Savings Time ended, and didn't realize this until the VCR didn't start up like it was supposed to at the time. I thought I reset it before Wednesday night, but it's possible I pushed the wrong button and my changes didn't get saved. The problem was worse on the CBS station at 7:30, which starts the episode a little early--and it was the election night episode (or at least it wasn't the one I had just seen)! At least I saw it, even if I missed a few clues at the beginning. I don't know how the station handled other nights later in the week, but it's the teachers' tournament, and hopefully those will be rerun. I say "hopefully" because one of the tournaments only had reruns for its second week.
