Did bill handel get reprimanded when he said the f word on air to jamie on 98.7

I was just listening to it on www.therealkfi.com where ziegler has it posted along with his dustup with john kobyl well bill really went off on jamie white on 98.7 and used the f word and said you can't any numbers blah blah blah he was a reall a hole and should have been suspended for that for at least a week does anyone know if he was punished and also what has happened to jamie jack and stench since they got fired?

If memory serves, Handel was suspended. It happened to coincide with a planned vacation, I believe. As to Jack and Stench, aren't they trying to do an internet-based show?

I think stench has a talk show M-F in the afternoons on SIRIUS under another name.

I have gathered from listening that he was also required to attend some kind of Anger Management counseling. It may also be that his sudden interest in martial arts may be an attempt to channel his hostility. As to his kids I rather suspect that they are in fact holy terrors and I pity anyone who has to deal with them as adults. The “F” bomb never actually made it on the air, the delay worked so far as I could determine. If it had aired the punishment should have been more severe.

However the canceling of Jamie and crew probably had more to do with poor ratings and management’s intent to change the station to its current format. There is no reason to think that the morning crew wouldn’t have fit but the thinking was to begin with a clean slate I am sure.

Stench now has a daily radio show for Sirius Radio under the on-air name Stretch on their Maxim radio station from 10AM-2:00PM EST. Jack was working for a country station 95.7 down in San Diego on the Tony and Kris show and was let go when they fired the morning crew last week. Jamie is still looking for another on-air opportunity. As for their ratings at KYSR, they were actually better than they had been in a while for the morning show. The Valentine and Lisa replacement morning show had very low ratings. Management as I understood from Mike Roberts aka Stench/Stretch just didn't like them and wanted an excuse to fire them. They were doing pretty decently in their ratings to get sponsors. As for Bill Handel, Jack hit the dump button so that only on-line listeners like myself heard the unedited version live of the fight.

Interesting that management had already confronted Bill about his two daughters disturbing Jamie, Jack, and Stench's phone screener for candy and CD's. You'd think as much money as Bill makes, they wouldn't need to ask anyone for anything because they would already have whatever they wanted. Bill had apologized to them a few weeks earlier and assured them it wouldn't happen again. A lot of people didn't hear the full story of what happened behind the scenes that December 2006 morning. Bill's daughters burst into Star 98.7's studios while they were doing audio cuts for that day's show before they went on the air. They didn't knock on the door and went right in and asked the producer for CD's. He said they could not give them any and then they proceeded to bother phone screener Monica Medina after the show went on the air. When Bill came back to confront Jamie for telling his daughters they couldn't be around their studio, he was pacing out in the hall and she saw him and invited him into their studio having no idea what kind of behavior he was about to unleash on them. Bill physically shoved their then morning producer and that is why he didn't get fired until exactly one year later when the statute of limitations ran out on him being able to sue.

"Stretch" is actually the name he went by for a long time, then when he got to Star, Jamie screwed up on the air once, and decided that "Stench" was his name from now on. But as far as I know, "Stretch" has been Stretch since the 80's back at Power 106 when he was a street teamer. And as for them getting fired, management had been looking for an excuse to get rid of them even before Danny left the team, this incident on the air, was the straw that broke the camels back.

As I said or meant to say was that they were fired when CC rolled out a new format, but you may be correct about them wanting an excuse to fire them anyway.

Having had the experience of dealing with local clients who recorded their own commercials and insisted on bringing their brats along to see Daddy and/or Mommy on the radio I know the problem of kids in the studio. Bill should not have brought them in, he surely has enough money to hire a sitter if Margery was busy with "Pepino the Cuban Pool Boy".

As to your statement about Handel being fired, when was that? I listen to KFI only for his show and except for the suspension and vacations he has always been on as well as the Saturday syndicated shows. The rest of your story is very plausible and from what I've deduced myself seems likely to be pretty near the facts.

LOL I had to re-read that sentence and I realized he was talking about the morning producer being fired a year later...not Handel

I was talking about their then morning producer being fired. They called him Mr. Poodle (real name was Brian). Mike Roberts (Stench/Stretch) has said over and over that when he, Jamie, and Jack got the ax, Brian was nowhere to be found. He knew the station was too afraid of a lawsuit to fire Brian after Bill shoved him. He predicted that Brian would not see the door for at least 1 year, and sure enough when a year was up, Brian was ousted. He also claims that Brian contacted him and claimed to be in Hawaii when management held their meeting to fire them. But Mike travels to Hawaii often enough that he knew the hotels were too booked to get a last minute room during that time of the year and Brian had not mentioned going there when they went on Christmas vacation. I seem to recall Mike himself was in Hawaii just before they were let go and said it was crazy crowded and any available room would have been outrageously expensive.

Mike Roberts (Stench/Stretch) said on a recent Jamie, Jack, and Stench podcast that Bill Handel did them a favor picking that on-air fight. He later found out the fight actually helped the three of them financially. It seems that although they had one more week to go before going on their two week Christmas vacation, management had planned to fire them after their show on the same Friday when Bill got into the on-air fight. Because Bill instigated the fight, management was forced not to go through with their plans to let them go and they got another three weeks of pay thanks to Bill. And for those of us who remember, Clear Channel decided to let them go a week early on their Christmas vacation because of the Bill Handel incident. So they had three weeks of paid vacation.

Actually though it really only helped Jack. Jack's contract had expired and they had not signed a new agreement with him. Jamie's contract ran until August of 2007 and Mike's wasn't up until February of 2007. Jack had shown concern over going on vacation for two weeks without signing a new contract. Management told him that he could go shop for presents and that he had nothing to worry about. Mike and Jamie kept their pay until their contracts expired.
