Did Ron St Pierre violate the law having a 3 hour guest spokesperson for Hillary

And this is the SOLE respondibility of St Pierre. Joe Foulkes former head of the NAACP raised this at noon on the Buddy Cianci show. This is OUTRAGEOUS and possibly illegal. The day before an election! Foulkes was very concerned and St Pierre WISECRACKED to listen to Depetro's morning show! As if that were a balance! Depetro had Sen S. Whitehouse on today a CLINTON SUPPORTER!! Buddies show has had SEVERAL pro Clinton people from the Caprio's to Ray Flynn! not ONE PRO OBAMA! NOT ONE!
WPRO is the ONLY local live talk station. I hope Mr. Foulkes files a formal complain with the F.C.C. This is DISGUSTING and St Pierre is a shill and very disingenous.

booooooo

Someone send a note to the Obama camp. Contact the FCC as well. Don't forget about Citadel headquarters. It will all be straightened out. ;)

Welcome to Buddies election special; Buddies Bustin Depetro and Yorks balls. Ronza is happy to make it happen. This is all wpro inside the building Sniping. Yeah, and Obama gets a pretty crappy deal.
Hillary Clinton supports have been on all 3 shows. I agree with you two. And let me say this, wpro is supporting a candidate that goes after talk radio. You all forgot about Media Matters and Imus didn't you.. Stupid, stupid, Stupid.

Boys & girls...go read the rule. It applies to the candidates themselves. Seeing as Hilary wasn't on the show and those that spoke are currently not running for an office, as far as I can see, nothing illegal was done....that would be my interpretation; but I don't sit on the board of the FCC.

This is how I understand the rules, as well.

I read on another board, Cliff Montenaro , who is chairman of the NAACP plans on filing a formal complaint. The Providence Journal will front page WPRO with that! I bett the FCC would take some kind of action also.

Well I'm voting for Obama anyway. Was before and still am now. Thanks to her husband, Hillary is well versed in how to play the political game. But apparently she's not playing it well enough. She's still losing. I say that it's time for some new blood to kick this country in a new direction. WPRO can try to help Hillary all they want. We'll see how much influence (if any) they had in the end.

For what?

By the letter of law, Ron did NOTHING illegal. However, it is always a good policy to not have a political representative on the air 24 hours before the election. At least you want to give the appearance of fairness. But if someone is inclined to make trouble, any letter to the commission will get the GM squirming. Hell if you file a FCC complaint, it may get you hired. It worked for DiPetro.

Cliff Monteiro?? :D A sad and powerless Uncle Tom.
The Projo's own Follies show on Friday night featured Sen John Kerry as part of the show and openly stumping for Obama while on stage. Maybe I'll file a formal complaint over the Journal's skewed and one sided advocacy

Or we could all grow up and realize that these mediums are not required to re-enforce are beliefs and there are going to be times when we don't like what we hear. The answer is not government intervention.

Johnny D. spends his ENTIRE morning show hyping Barack. (Ron St.Pierre is correct). It all evens out. He has sound bytes to make fun of Hillary and trashes her at every moment. He only has pro-Obama guests (like Michelle Obama's brother) at every given moment.
The FCC would only see it as an issue if they had the candidates themselves on. Having ex-administrators or political allies is not the candidate. Sounds like sour Obama grapes to me.
Cliff Montiero once again should concentrate on the issues in the community that are affecting the people he represents and less on entertainment shows.

That and $.25 won't even get you a cup of coffee. THIS IS NOT A STORY. Gio & Kim had Bill on this morning and said they had attempted to give equal opportunity to a rep of Obama's camp-never heard back.

Cliff Monteiro is one of the biggest blowhards in this state who tries to throw his weight around (and mind you, it is a lot of weight) for silly things. To be honest, the NAACP would do itself well to get themselves a new head of the RI chapter to better represent what is really ailing their constituents....

absolutely right-THIS IS NOT A STORY. does every station thats airs 3 hours of Rush's rightwing shineola feel or are legally obligated to air an equal 3 hours of leftwing shineola?

Amen. Add Hannity, Imus and Beck to the mix, too

The Equal Time Ruling only requires a TV or radio station to “treat legally qualified political candidates equally” when it comes to selling or giving away air time.

A broadcast station is under no obligation to contact the opposition party to offer said time but must make it available upon request.

But interestingly the Equal Time Ruling doesn’t even apply to news interview shows as this and three other categories are exempt.

The notion that Ron St.Pierre did anything “illegal” is simply uninformed.

Dale Jackson makes a good point though… (About the medium not being required to reflect our belief) and I wonder if the original poster would have been as “outraged” if their candidate was on for three hours.
