Different Fox Box For College Football Than For NFL Football

Has anyone noticed the new Fox Box for College Football this year?

If you have, did you notice that they're NOT using the team logos in College Football like they do for NFL telecasts but instead using just lettering (An example being SJSU for San Jose State University)

Wonder why this is.....Hmm.....

Thoughts?

Cheers & 73 :)

Perhaps because the college logos aren't universally recognized like the NFL logos are?

To me, the college Fox Box is hard to read, but maybe that's just old age.

Maybe they should use more BOLD LETTERING IN ALL CAPS.

Either that or not SQUISH & SQUEEZE the box to the point whereas the lettering can't be read in the first place.....

Probably because there are so many college teams. Also my local Fox RSN uses that variation for high school football.

That shouldn't affect the use of logos instead of lettering which would make it easier to read

For example, if they were to use the UCLA logo in the Fox Box during last night's SJSU/UCLA game, I'd have no trouble making out the UCLA logo. It is well recognized. Ditto with the infamous red Stanford S. If they were to televise a Notre Dame game (Away game obviously), I'd be able to pick it out like I would the Cleveland Browns logo in the NFL.

And who can mistake the USC Trojans logo? Or the Oklahoma Sooners logo? Or that Texas Longhorn logo?

I could go on & on but I'm sure you get the gist of it by now ;)

Cheers & 73 :D

The FOX Box is hard to read in all its incarnations in SD.

During today's St. Louis baseball game, I was watching with a friend on a 32" Tv and he kept asking what the score was. I had similar issues with various college games on the RSNs yesterday on my bedroom TV. Neither TV is one of those new-fangled HDTV models -- although I do admit that on my living room TV, the FOX Box looks great :)

Poor FSN. They used to rule the Pac10. FSN Northwest had the Oregon and Washington teams. FSN West/Prime Ticket had USC/UCLA and Stanford, FSN Arizona with UA and ASU.

Now, Fox has been ROOTed out of the NW, the SJSU/UCLA came across like students from the film school shot it...and the young lady who is the sideline reporter asked the SJSU head coach what it was like to be down by only two 'possessions' at half time. NBCSportsVersus now has Pac12 games.

The realignments of teams are so screwed up that Cal and Colorado..who are now conference mates..but not for Saturdays game.. featured Barry Tompkins on PBP, with a generic CSN NCAA feed that we got on Fox College Sports.

FSN has the dwindling Big12 and...um...Conference USA...and thanks to FSSouth, an occasional ACC game that ESPN/Raycom doesnt want.

Oh..but now FX has Gus Johnson...and a Pac12 game.

And the Rockies  Don't forget that FSN Rocky Mountain is also a charter member of ROOT Sports (FSN Pittsburgh being the only other one I know of)
NBCSportsVersus now has Pac12 games.
Starting with the Utah/USC game

I wonder how much NBC paid Fox to do that. Altitude & one of the Bay Area CSN outlets could've carried the game just as easily
FSN has the dwindling Big12
Dwindling?? More like IMPLODING !!!!!
and...um...Conference USA...and thanks to FSSouth, an occasional ACC game that ESPN/Raycom doesnt want.
Which is RARE in College Football (This is more of a College Basketball thing)

I still think College Football looks out of place on FX (I'm sorry but it's true). Then too, so does the UFC on Fox, so.....

Cheers & 73 :D

The Big 12 is imploding rather quickly. So quickly, in fact, that this might be the only year that the adage "The Big 10 has twelve teams and the Big 12 has ten" is correct.

The Big 12 will likely shrink even more, now with a report today about the University of Oklahoma possibly joining the Pac-12; many of us know by about Texas A&M all but ready to joining the SEC. If OU takes with Oklahoma State with them, and SEC officially accepts Texas A&M, the Big 12 is done.

I'm not sure what you're lamenting here.

The national Pac-12+ telecasts that used to air on regional FSNs have moved/will move to national outlets (now including the FX games, specifically branded 'Fox College Football' and 'CFB on Fox' for their pending appearance on broadcast Fox). That's an upgrade--these games won't get bumped at the whim of regional coverage on the FSNs, content that could be local MLB, FCS football, mid-major college basketball, college soccer/volleyball, or gawd forbid--poker.

'Poor FSN' is now left with the Big XII and C-USA telecasts that won't feature marquee games, nor are they guaranteed to be seen by the entire country. So? The old Pac-10 telecasts didn't have great national appeal either, though I'm actually going to miss the occasional 'late night' game from the West Coast to enjoy.
