KSPN 710 is significantly weaker in San Diego after they moved transmitter sites.i don’t live in LA anymore. But, isn’t kspn’s signal weaker now since the change in tower site move? I just don’t see how kspn survives, unless their trying to find their way to FM.
So which AM (possibly FM) becomes the new ESPN affiliate?
I expect for KSPN to add an HD-subchannel any day now. Maybe on KKGO or KLOS? A lot of electric cars in Southern California to not at least have a token presence on FM.So which AM (possibly FM) becomes the new ESPN affiliate?
I wonder the same thing about what, if anything, kspn is brewing behind the scenes. They spent a lot of money to re-up with the Lakers. I can’t imagine any side being happy with the station not being in the top 10 in money demos or the ratings at allI expect for KSPN to add an HD-subchannel any day now. Maybe on KKGO or KLOS? Also, while a Wilson signal is likely way beyond reach, I wouldn't be surprised if they made a play for KDLD if it ever was available or if Stevie Wonder decided to exit the radio business.
So will calvery chapel be airing music or preaching on the AM side?
In Chicago, Good Karma was able to simulcast it on one of Hubbard's HD sub-channels. I think it is going to be really hard to be the flagship of any pro team anywhere going forward and not have any presence on FM, especially in a market like LA.
Is their transmitter still on a hill in San Clemente (it was when I was on-air there in 1993) or has it been moved since? I know the studios moved many years ago from El Camino Real in San Clemente to CCCM.107.9 does have a decent signal in most of Orange Country and a good portion of the IE because of the incredible height and line of site, it is at the end of the day only 530 watts and has a very strong null to the north because of KUZZ-FM in Bakersfield.

Very true about iHeart, which stopped mentioning listening to games on AM 570 some time ago. When cross promoting on KFI, it's always "hear it on LA Sports on the iHeart radio app". Obviously, a very smart move as this drives a lot more traffic and downloading to their app. The app is really more important to iHeart than than the broadcasting division of the company. The way iHeart has been handling it is building a very rich streaming presence for the teams. Lots of edited highlights from games. Real time play by play isn't as useful for younger audiences as the edited highlights.

I’m curious to know what Good Karma has planned, if anything. From what I see on the ESPN LA app, it’s just podcasts and an option to listen live. Not implying sports is a major need on fm in LA.The way iHeart has been handling it is building a very rich streaming presence for the teams. Lots of edited highlights from games. All that said, when Family Radio took over KFRC (now KEAR, 610) in San Francisco in 2005, they agreed to continue Oakland A's broadcasts for the rest of the 2005 season. This also caused KEAR to delay conversion to noncommercial status. That will not be happening unless the sports team you are thinking about is the Calvary Chapel High School Eagles.
Jokes aside, it's going to be very hard for a committed religious broadcaster (which Calvary Chapel certainly is), to participate with pro and most college-level sports broadcasts. And it is getting harder.
The reason is that more and more of the overall advertising pool is in categories that would either make the broadcaster very uncomfortable or would violate their doctrinal positions and code of conduct policies, such as adult beverages and and sports gambling.
KBLAThis is bad news for listeners to KSPN, who often simulcast some games on this frequency.
It also furthers the view that Tavis Smiley overspent on KBLK.
Buy high, sell low...the legacy of Radio Disney.![]()
Disney Sells Its Final Radio Station, L.A.’s KRDC.
The Walt Disney Company, whose ABC Radio was an industry powerhouse for decades, is leaving the business as quiet as a mouse. Disney has struck a $5 million deal towww.insideradio.com
Congrats to Disney selling it's last radio station KDRC Los Angeles to Calvary Chapel.
For years, 1260 was everyone’s overflow station. By the way, does anyone here know how which stations get selected for overflow conflicts?Keep in mind that 1110 KRDC has only been simulcasting 710 KSPN since 4/14/2021.
KSPN was a standalone outlet on 710 from 1/1/2003 to 4/14/2021.
(Previously, KSPN was a standalone on 1110 from 12/1/2000 until 1/1/2003.)
710 goes back to what it has been for most of its existence as the simulcast/overflow on 1110 was a nice bonus for 2+ years.
(Though, even before the simulcast started, 1110 was used for conflicts.)
They'll have to look for a different outlet for conflicts, particularly Rams + Lakers (830? 1090?)
They *have* used 93.1 to simulcast Rams games.
It's negotiated between teams and stations. If a station has two games from different teams in the same time period, they work with the teams under their contract and find a second station to carry one of the games.By the way, does anyone here know how which stations get selected for overflow conflicts?
