Disney's acquisition of final shares of Hulu settled

This was expected since Disney took over the former 20th Century Fox now 20th Century Studios from the Murdochs and got Fox’s share of Hulu. That in turn got Comcast to form the Peacock app in preparation for this situation.

Wonder if they'll continue with two apps or just one once the deal is done (Disney Plus?)

I could have sworn that we discussed in one of the threads about this that the plan is one app. Hulu has been available on Disney+ for more than a year. At some point, they'll just migrate the Hulu app folks over and shut the Hulu app down.

The Hulu branding though, has a chunk of name equity and a prestige image (The Handmaid's Tale, Only Murders in the Building, The Bear, Nine Perfect Strangers, Shogun) that Disney would be wise to keep.

But what about what Fox brings to the table on Hulu? I’m not so sure Disney wouldn’t like to keep collecting a check from the Murdochs

now they are completing the Hulu deals and already bought Fubo TV, i expect them to merge the 2 together and rebrand Hulu as the live TV portal of DIsney+ and move all the edgier content over to Disney+ under the Hulu on Disney+ or Star umbrella.

They've already said it will be one app---Disney+. Hulu will live on the Disney app for the reasons cited above.

That's what I meant. But yes, just like in international countries where there's a Star section of Disney Plus, it would be smart to keep the Hulu section, which now is for bundle subscribers. I think the Hulu app itself might go away and migrate it's subscribers to Disney Plus.

Im sure they will lower the bill and not charge for Hulu anymore. Right.... right?

Im not sure how that is going to work given that Hulu in other countries is named Star app. Yes that happened while Disney was shutting down cable networks named "Fox International" as part of Disney taking over 20th Century Studios from the Murdochs. It came out at the same time they were launching Star app as part of getting the Disney+ bundle outside of the United States.

The Walt Disney Company has no interest in shutting down or parting ways with its general entertainment streaming service Hulu, despite reports that suggest otherwise, the company’s CEO affirmed in a TV interview this week.

In an interview with CNBC, Disney CEO Bob Iger said the company’s intention to acquire full control of Hulu will allow it to launch the brand globally and roll out more bundling opportunities with other services.

The comments came about a day after Puck News published a column by its founding partner Matthew Belloni, who speculated that Disney’s recent intergration of Hulu content into Disney Plus was proof that the general entertainment streamer was becoming immaterial to its business.

“The integration of Hulu content into Disney Plus has worked well,” Belloni wrote. “Outside this country, Disney already puts Hotstar, its general-interest brand, under Disney Plus, without offering it as a separate service. It seems natural that the same fate will befall Hulu.”

They rename Star to Hulu.
