DJ MO Number #1 18-49 on Orlando's Public Radio WPRK- FM

The radio station I'm on, WPRK-FM 91.5, just installed & tested Arbitron PPM encoding equipment today.
So for those with PPM measuring devices, please keep 91.5 locked around you or hang out in Winter Park area, especially on Fridays 5-7pm! ;)

What numbers do you guys think we'll be getting?
Just asking for opinions.
You'll probably see WPRK's publicly released Arbitron PPM data in about a month or two.

That's a violation of Arbitron rules and can get you de-listed.

Just sayin'.

Really, Parttimer? I don't know anyone who has the PPM devices. ???

If that's the case, then never mind. :-X

Just listen to my show for fun. :p

Mo--

Non-commercial stations can buy the Arbitron data reasonably through www.rrconline.org. Hope you show big like Dean O'Neal's non-com, WPOZ, which BTW, is in a three way tie for first place in January!

It can be done!

Z88.3 is doing it with a few translators & has 10 times more powerful signal than WPRK-FM 91.5.

WPRK-FM 91.5 is just a maximum 1,300 watt station. The signal only reaches as far north as just past Altamonte Springs & as far south as Universal Studios. An NPR also on 91.5 sometimes distorts WPRK outside the said coverage area. However, WPRK covers downtown Orlando very well, so we'll see how it goes.

I only expect WPRK-FM 91.5 to show up in ratings somewhere under WMFE-FM 90.7. If we end up above it, I'll be surprised. And I'll be even MO surprised if the topic of this discussion becomes reality!

I know some people aren't even aware of this little Rollins College radio station on the left side of the dial. However, WPRK-FM 91.5 just managed to be a Top 10 College Radio Station in MTV-U's Woodie Awards this month through listener votes worldwide. (Miami's WVUM-FM 90.5 was also in the Top 10.) Voting just ended. The winner will be announced live on MTV on March 16th.

Here's Orlando Weekly's funny article about it:

Yeah, technically it's a violation to solicit people to participate in the ratings process. Same thing as how stations used to do liners like "Rock 105...write it down".

Come on Mo!

PPM meters are not distributed geographically, but with population. I bet WPRK has over about half the available meters in earshot.

You just got to get out there and promote!

Print some bumper stickers with tag line, "Safe for the Hip Ears". Hire Shannon Burke as a consultant for your outdoor campaign. Doc is out of work, he can help with TV as he has done a number of stellar TV spots through out the years.

You can do this!

DJ MO, in the article about you and WPRK, the claim is made that WPRK is the oldest station in Florida. believe that honor belongs to WDAE in
Tampa, going on the air in 1922. There are others that also went on in the 20's. Also, for no reason other than to keep you and Rollins College out
of trouble, you should an Arbitron course, they are now available on line...any Arbitron subscriber can get this basic training. If you and WPRK are
not Arbitron subscribers, then I would take the #1 18-49 banner down, and stop talking about Arbitron. That is on company that protects its
name and data to the hilt. Don't mean to pick on you, but if you want to be in radio, you need tolearn about radio. I am not sure that WPRK is
the only independently owned station in Orlando, WLOQ'S owner would not agree with you, nor would Rama communications and WMFE FM which
is community owned and operated.

Its a joke! Go back to page one and read. So was my tongue-in-cheek advice above.

Mo is doing just fine. He's got a great show which scored in the diaries, and now that WPRK is encoding, will show in PPM.

I actually was quite surprised, because someone actually e-mailed me the data for my 2-hour show in particular one time. That was back in Spring 2009 when I first took over this current time slot.

Over the past 2 years, the calls on the request line have more than doubled, which is a good indicator of more people listening & being aware of it. (And more female callers.) I was told from a couple radio professionals like you that 1 call = about 100 listeners. If that is true, I definitely have nothing to worry about.

And yes, the headline was a joke by someone else. I did not start this thread. You guys have the keenest sense of humor.

I did not write that article, nor did I have any say in the accuracy of the information before it got posted. I just saw it on WPRK's Facebook & reposted it.

And you're right, quadman. I do not know that much about radio. That is probably why I'm not a paid radio professional like most of you are...yet.

Thank you all for your support,
- DJ Mo :D

Would some radio historian please explain why they and WQAM have both been claiming this, probably since 1921 or '22?
This enquiring mind would like to hear both the answer and the reason or justification.
