I think I'll hold off making an opinion until enough people start shows that encourage people to "Kill your local broadcaster", and see if it upsets anyone

.
But, in fact, there are some talkers who encourage violence. Whether we can call them "responsible media" or "irresponsible media" remains to be seen. Some are large corporate broadcasters, some are small operators just trying for ratings points, so they can stay on the air.
There are time-brokerage stations, especially on shortwave, who will sell time to anyone with cash. And, there are many that are owned entirely by the entities that are creating the programming...often masquerading as religious groups (more correctly, "quasi-religious/political").
When I heard the guy had been ranting about "World Currency" and "New World Order" conspiracy theories, my thoughts went directly to some of these brokered-time broadcasts. Not saying that the mainstream media is completely guilt free, either.
(As a side note:
The company I work for dumped the #1 rated Sean Hannity recently, not for what he says, but for the increasingly inflammatory way that he was saying it. Our own comment boards were showing such increasing rage, with comments on gays, Mexicans, and others reaching in to the hundreds and even thousands. I think the final straw came when one of our own, moderate talk hosts' son was killed in an accident, and many comments of "good riddance" and "see what God does to Mexican lovers" were posted on our site. We had to close the comments on that story, and soon closed the entire comment board system.....
That same day, I talked to a nearby building's tenants, about why their windows were boarded up. They told me that it happens often, because the Mexican Consulate was previously located in the building, and people routinely would smash the windows. They had even been threatened by people who would come inside and rant at the first person they saw...which was actually a local government sponsored handicapped assistance center, because there was a Mexican flag next to the American flag on the roof. They had to get a poster of "Flag Etiquette" from the government, to show people that it was properly displayed. They still got threats. Crazy folks get nasty, and some talk shows fuel their hatred. It needs to be taken seriously.)
