Some of those have to be miss prints... Hot 97 wouldnt play Eye of the Tigger, or bruce springstein..lol
Or Hot 97 is doing the Wrong song mix AKA Russ Parr morning show wrong song mix .

But those songs were listed during nights, Russ wouldnt have been on.... Hot 97 shouldnt be playing Maroon 5 either, but as for the other songs, if its not a miss print, they may be skewing more rhythmic... Ive heard most of those songs on hot anyway, other than Kelly Clarkson.

My favorite formats are rhythmic and rhythmic top 40 (or dance if available), but there was a time not so long ago when I really loved urban too, and have caught some "odd" stuff on urban radio. For example, I remember back when Hot 107.9 used to play Britney's "I'm a slave for you" and I remember a little over a year ago hearing "take you there" by Sean Kingston on Hot 107.9. I saw "closer" by Ne-yo on V-103's playlist a while back for a short time, and heard "genie in a bottle" while connecting flights with my walkman on V-103.

It's usually difficult to catch Hot 107.9 or V-103 playing "odd" stuff, but I know Hot 97 in New York does it for a fact now, even though it's not frequent.

By the way, I do think two hip hop stations can survive in certain cities. I've lived in places where there are/were two hip hop (one leaning a bit more r&b) and also two top 40's with a rhythmic and a pure r&b channel as well. Then there are those places with two hip hop's and a rhythmic claiming still claiming to be the new #1 for hip hop while adding a bit more pop songs in. Most urban stations don't play pop, but... what would booty bass be classified under? Maybe that's not as relevant today as it was in 1995-1998, but still? Then you have those stations that would play house and bass in mix shows, while there are those that wont even touch dance, but were heavy with the booty bass.

Then we have Power 106 in LA Where Hip Hop Lives... just look at their playlist and consider keep in mind their dance mixshows... which I do appreciate. I guess in reality, slogans don't really matter, but can sway people (especially newcomers who just landed in an airport and turned on a radio) to go and hang out at a certain spot on the dial for a while. I remember going back to Atlanta in Nov. 2001 and listening to 95.5 The Beat as a hit music station. After a while, I began to get the hint that if I wanted true hit music in the sense of genre variety, Q100 was the (new) place to be because 95.5 became rhythmic, playing mainly r&b and hip hop influenced hits. There was once a time where my only choice for "hit" music was Star*94, and I found myself knowing a lot more about alternative and some pop than anything else. 95.5 and Q100 came and saved the day, but AFTER I already moved, which I was pissed about.

San Francisco/Oakland has 3 KMEL(urban), KMVQ(a movin station that is now rhythmic), and KYLD(a top 4O station that plays pop and hip-hop.

If Hot 102.7 get removed from the air as a hip-hop station here in Detroit, Michigan , the city of Detroit being one of the nations largest cities would look strange with only 1 hip-hop station specificall urban hip-hop station unlike Channel 955 which is rhythemic CHR, but they lie and call themselves Mainstream CHR.

With the huge African American population and with Detroit being a big city Detroit would look weird with only 1 hip-hop/rap radio station which would then be FM 98 WJLB at 97.9 FM.

I am african american myself and i like Hot 102.7 and hate JLB cause I have monitored them and i see JLB plays more commercials than hip-hop. FM 98 WJLB sucks.

Hot 102.7 is the station.

What's going on with 95.5 The Beat now? They've seriously started letting go of their Britney, P!NK, and Katy Perry plays and went more urban. I might as well say they are super close to Wild 98.7 in Orlando.

I hope our 101.5 KZON here in Phoenix doesn't go (back to being) too urban. Maybe add a few more urban hits, but keep the rhythmics in addition to it. KKFR should go urban, or it that doesn't work out let something else replace KKFR with a better signal, just transfer the employees with a few newbies mixed in, keep the call letters if they wish, and then go urban.

Human Numan,,, there was once a time when in the mid 90s when Detroit had 5.....read again.....5 Urban stations.... and 6 if you counted the rhythmic Dance-hip hop that DRQ was doing at the time... At this time 95.5 was an Adult top 40,, similar to how 96.3 sounds today....And 96.3 was more Alternative. Hot 102.7 is definately more youth friendly with less R&B then 98,,, and not a fake CHR Urban in disguise like 95.5... But when you get on the west side of Detroit ive gotten interference from 102.9 ANN Arbor, which is country... So if your on the west side of Detroit and tune into 102.7 you get CRAP=Country and Rap.... I think the FCC messed up on that Allocation.
