Much of the reason that statons such as 96.3 which broadcast in a foreign language, even with the relaitively high precentage of Spainish speaking people in our city, are getting the numbers they now are is because, in reality these ARE foreign language facilities. Spanish language radio (or Korean or Russian or any station broadcasting anything other than the English language) appeals to a large minority, but like every other New Yorker they don't spend their time 24/7 in a Spanish speaking environment. These stations appeal to mainly first generation immigrants but, like every other culture who has immigrated to our country while they may speak Spanish at home, most of their day is spent in areas where English is the languge spoken. The PPM's don't know what you choose to listen to. It responds to what you hear. You won't go in to a department store in the NY metro area (or any store outside of a few urban areas) and hear WZRC or WSKQ for example being played. You will hear Light FM or WCBS FM however. They are designed to offend the fewest people possible. I realize some might take offense to these comments but they are correct.
I'll bet if you broke down numbers by communities the numbers would be totally different than what they look like on the 12+ board.
