Does anybody listen to the Connecticut Whale on WCCC-FM?

http://www.courant.com/sports/hocke...n-column-0314-20120313,0,944898.column?page=1

The above story is about the awful lease agreement that Howard Baldwin and the Connecticut Whale have with the XL Center in Hartford. It's a good read, but quite a sad one, really. :-\

Meanwhile, does anybody actually listen to the Connecticut Whale games aired by WCCC-FM 106.9? Sometimes, an early game ends up on WCCC-AM 1290 of West Hartford, which I can barely get here in New Britain's south end (and not at all in the evening, if they're still on). It sure seems that putting a game on the AM screams "this team isn't as important as we made it out to be".

In a word, yes. And WCCC AM is still on at night, with a whole eight watts. And I also did read the story about the Whale and the current lease situation does indeed suck!!!

A BIG thank you to WCCC for their hockey. My listenership literally Quadruples with Wall to wall requests when the games start while I have been on WXCI. Unfortunately my radio show is on "hiatus" until I can speak to the student directors due to an issue with a recent show which won't be until mid April. UGGH! The hockey has been really, really pissing me off and many others that listen to CCC as well on other nights I am not on air.

You know CT is desperate for sports when minor league hockey is being broadcast on a full power FM station ;D

Is Whale hockey a dollar-a-holler deal for 'CCC, with the Whale paying for airtime and selling whatever advertising they can? If so, I'd imagine that the games, no matter how few listeners they attract, may result in more profit for 'CCC than it would realize by paying a live jock to do those three hours during a light listening daypart and trying to sell those hours to the few advertisers the station still has.

I'm just trying to see if there are any other 50,000 watt AM or FM stations carrying their local team's AHL games? Certainly not with the Springfield Falcons (WHYN-AM 560) or the Bridgeport Soundtigers (online only). I'm trying to remember who airs the games of the Providence Bruins. Is it WHJJ-AM 920?

Can't think of any for hockey, but Buffalo Bisons AAA baseball games are on 50,000-watt WWKB 1520.

And like a half-dozen New Britain Rock Cats games will end up on WTIC-AM 1080, if there's no Red Sox conflict. There was one season (1996?), when the Rock Cats were on 910 AM, before that station went Spanish.

the portland maine pirates are on both of the weei simulcast stations in Southern and Central Maine, both Class A fm's, WPEI and WPPI, combined they do cover the entire portland market.
