Don Cherry fired from Sportsnet Hockey Night in Canada

Apparently ratings for HNIC are down since Grapes was shown the door.

Are the two things related? Maybe, maybe not.
I have no idea what the game lineup has been since then.
Ottawa at Vancouver is not a very compelling matchup at this point.

Toronto is shown almost weekly on CBC. Montreal, Winnipeg and Ottawa are on City or Rogers Sportsnet in regards to the early game

Looking ahead Toronto is not playing on the following Saturdays-1/11 & 3/7. (1/25 is All Star weekend) They've played every Saturday since the season began and play a Canadian team or a Original 6 team alot. If it isn't one those then its a "premier" team. This has been their weekly opponents so far
Montreal, Detroit, Boston, Montreal, Philly, Philly, Pittsburgh, Colorado, Buffalo, St Louis, Edmonton, Detroit and this week is the Rangers. I would consider Colorado the one exception.

Colorado is very good this year -- better than Detroit, Philly, Buffalo and the Rangers. Do Canadian hockey fans really still prefer to see Leafs-Wings or Leafs-Flyers over Leafs-Avs?

I'm sure the old school fans do. But I'm sure its HNIC (Rogers/CBC) that wants Toronto against a Original 6, "Marquee" team or a Canadian team. Here is the rest of their Saturday games
Islanders, Blackhawks, Ottawa, Montreal, Ottawa, Carolina, Vancouver, Boston, Columbus, Ottawa, Montreal

So other than Colorado, NYI, Carolina and Columbus they play one of the options I listed above.

Yet a team like Vancouver (who plays alot of the late game) looking at their schedule they have 5 games against Canadian teams (3 against Calgary) but have lots of games against San Jose (3), LA (2), Anaheim, Vegas and other what most folks consider non marquee games. While the hardcore fans will watch them through thick and thin I cant see casual folks watching Vancouver vs Los Angeles
