Don Lemon of CNN has a Ron Burgundy Moment with Jonah Hill

I thought Lou Dobbs and Rick Sanchez were the Ron Burgundies of CNN. I had no Idea there was a third Burgundy at CNN.

I guess I'm missing your point. How does Lemon's little feud with Jonah Hill make him a "Ron Burgundy" type?

I also don't get how Dobbs could be considered a "Ron Burgundy" type. Dobbs is more of a George Putnam or Paul Harvey type...right wing and pompous. If you don't know, Putnam was a local anchor in Los Angeles in the 50s through the early 70s - on KTLA and KTTV mostly, then went into right-wing talk radio until he died a few years ago. He was reportedly the highest paid anchor in America in the 60s, and was the inspiration for the Ted Baxter character. Putnam was anything but stupid, however.

To me a Ron Burgundy type is the vacuous air-head type of anchor with the big hair that was common in the 70s and 80s. All good looks, but no substance. Neither Lemmon or Dobbs fit that stereotype.

So Rick Sanchez - yes - he's Ron Burgundy all over. What ever happened to him, anyway? I imagine he's now anchor on some Fox affiliate in a minor media market somewhere.

Well both Jonah Hill and Don Lemon argued on Twitter at a Hotel area. OK I agree Lemon and Hill in the article are viewed as jerks. OK Lemon is smart in terms of going into breaking news when a major event happens on the weekends on CNN. I think Lemon was the first person on CNN to make Twitter a popular site.

Yes Florida will Remember Rick Sanchez as the Co-Anchor on WSVN News with current NBC Bay Area Anchor Jessica Aguirre.

...Paul Harvey never struck me as pompous. Lowell Thomas would have been a better example...

He actually is doing FIU Football in Miami. His local reputation in Miami precedes him and very few people even think of hiring him.
However, per Wikipedia, he is working for FOX Latino and as a special contributor to FOX News Channel as well.

Rick Sanchez at one time was rumored to get anchor seats at KNX-AM/KCAL9/KCBS2 in LA but that never came into play but Rick Garcia from KTTV11 got the CBS LA spot in question. Also I always see Don Lemon as the first person to report a death of a celeb on CNN. THe last Time I watched CNN was when Whitney Houston Died.

OK - Lowell Thomas, it is. Paul Harvey was very, well - theatrical in his delivery, but you're right - I guess pompous is not accurate. It's too bad that very few clips exist of Putnam. Even in those days, with a lot of pompous and theatrical news anchors on radio and TV, he was in a class by himself.

I found a clip online a few years ago from the early 50s with Putnam at some show-biz function interviewing Ronald and Nancy Reagan...back when everybody still pronounced it "Ree-gan." I couldn't find it this time out. However, You Tube has the 1965 anti-porn documentary that Putnam did, called Perversion for Profit.

...it's also downloadable at http://archive.org/details/PerversionForProfit and worth every nickel you pay for it. ;D Putnam also worked the late news at WEAF/660 New York the night of 7 December 1941; his broadcast that night is still downloadable at http://newstalgia.crooksandliars.com/gordonskene/and-lest-we-all-forget-december-7-1941...
