In Portland OR a rock station called KUFO used to play Beck--either Jeff, or the "I'm a Loser" guy.
Now they run Beck--as in, Glenn.
They are now simulcasting KXL-AM on FM.

>>Newsradio 750 KXL has taken its news, information and talk shows to the FM dial effective immediately, now as a simulcast on 101.1FM. As a result, KXL-AM/FM will now deliver news and information, featuring in-depth reporting on local, national and international stories, weather and the most frequent and thorough traffic reports throughout the day to a broader audience utilizing the powerful signal at 101.1FM.
News, talk, or sports stations have begun simulcasts on FM or moved to FM in several cities. Would it happen in Boston? Right now, it's doubtful but who knows. After all, WCRB will always be on 102.5,
right? WBCN will always rock on terrestrial FM 104.1. And...a sports station on FM, are you kidding?
(In other words, you never know)
WRKO: Ratings are pitiful with PPMs. So would Entercom try to bring their programming to "a whole new audience" on FM just as Alpha is doing with KXL? Not unless Entercom can buy another FM. They sure
wouldn't make 93.7 HowieFM, not with how Mike is doing (and now they're hiring DJs). Would they move RKO to 97.7 or 107.3? Prob not. The signal is halfway decent at least by day, and I don't know if they'd
move it to FM
WEEI: Yes they have FM simulcasts down in RI, Western MA, the Cape, but would they put one within the 128 belt? Again, WMKK is doing well with what they have...the signal of 850 isn't bad by day. At night there's WCRN to carry the Sox games again; WBOQ covers North Shore with Sox games, etc.
WBZ: That powerhouse signal at 1030 does pretty well. I suppose if WODS cratered in the ratings they might consider it (Dan Rea, next on 103.3!) but the ol-- er, classic pop audience is still pretty reliable.
It has happened in Prov (630/99.7), Worcester (580/94.1), Albany (an FM station simulcasting WGY),
Portland OR (see above; btw radio-info notes that Clear Channel's KPOJ in Port OR does well with
prog. talk)...Wash DC...and so on.
Highly doubtful but if Greater sold WTKK to Entercom... "WRKO AM 680 and FM 96.9". Hmmph,
HIGHLY unlikely, but if they did they might at least get a no-static at all signal.
Are companies doing this because they feel they can get more (and younger) listeners on FM?
Or is part of it because some of their FMs are getting crappy ratings, and 'might as well'...?
And oh, Weekly Dig--how's that hot rumor of "Entercom buys WFNX, moves Mike there, and puts
WEEI on 93.7" working out?
