i'm sad to see gottlieb go but i'm very very happy for him. he's a hard worker and will flourish at CBS.
he's the last link to the good old days at ESPN radio. when hired, he paid tribute to chuck wilson and the other forefathers of ESPN radio. he wasn't there at the beginning but understood how important and precedent setting the wilson/bruno/olbermann/tirico days were. he was a link to me. i'll miss him.
listening to mike and mike or cowherd is really tough nowadays. the ads (the reads are so hard to handle that it turned me into a podcast listener only), the short segments and the cross platform plugs make the entire ESPN product awful. its sad because i was almost an exclusive ESPN listener until the late 2000's.
christine lisi, john stashower, mark kestecher and jay soderberg (podcast producer now) are really the only personalities at ESPN that are have any clue to how good and enjoyable ESPN radio really was. ryen rusillo is solid but will probably be at NBC by next year. he'll want to get out of the tall van pelt shadow.
doug gottlieb was good at his first NBA draft in 2002 or 2003 and i've always liked his radio work. he's prepared, not afraid to express an opinion and open about his past. GOOD LUCK to him at the EYE.
