2-time world champion Doyle Brunson, called the Godfather of Poker, dies at 89
Doyle Brunson died Sunday, according to his agent, Brian Balsbaugh. Brunson was 89. He was one of the most influential poker players of all time and a two-time world champion. Brunson was called the Godfather of Poker and also was known as “Texas Dolly.” He won 10 World Series of Poker...
I recall reading an interview that Brunson did about 10 years ago where he said he was amazed that Poker was now considered a "sport", was often televised nationally, and how large the pots had grown...He spoke of his time growing up as a poker player years back and discussed some of the shady places where he'd played. He explained how he'd been been beaten up, robbed and some of the places he played in were notorious for winning at all costs..Meaning you either lost at the table, or if you won, you'd be mugged on the way out.
