Yes, that's from the famous "Cruisin' " series of LPs -- one of the best of the series.

Yes - good series. I've had only one for a couple decades...somewhere in my stacks of old music - Robert W. Morgan (KHJ naturally). It's on cassette so I can't play it anymore.

The Cruisin' series was produced by Ron Jacobs (PD of KHJ in the late 60s, KGB in the 70s, producer of the original American Top 40, etc.). I was surprised to learn that they were "re-enactments" (so to speak) done many years later.

I first heard these LPs in the summer of 1970 -- the great Dave Herman was doing evenings at what was then WABC-FM, and he did a whole "theater of the mind" thing prefaced by the notion that all radio signals go out into space and on some nights "when the conditions are just right..." they can be heard with the proper equipment. And then he would twiddle some dials and... fade in on one of the Cruisin' LPs from the early '60s. he'd play one side of the LP and then "...ooops I think we're losing the signal..."

Wonderful stuff, especially for the radio-loving 15-year-old I was then.

Come to think of it, I guess that Crusin' cassette was my first foray into Top 40 radio nostalgia. It was an impulse buy at Tower Records, in the early 80s - way before the internet, radio-info, online air-checks, etc.

Yes, it's true.....The Crusin series were all reenactments.......The Beemer.....B.Mitchell Reid had to have a lot of coffee to recreate his KFWB days.

At one time long before his super hi energy days in top 40 he was the soft spoken Mr. Midnight on WOR in NY.
An amazing transformation.

And back to mellow again as the 'underground' FM jock on KPPC and KMET, though I noticed he could still spit "KMETninetyfourpointsevenFMStereoLosAngeles" with the best AM fast-talkers.
