Dr Laura gone from radio at end of 2010

NancyJohnson said:
honestly, who cares? ??? :D

Listeners who call for advice should recognize her as a hypocrite.

OK, guys. I don't ever want to hear of an ex-drug offender doing drug counseling. Once a druggie, always a druggie! And how can Dave Ramsey give financial advice when he once filed bankruptcy? Never mind that he made it all back and then some, he filed bankruptcy once, once a deadbeat, always a deadbeat! Let's get all hypocrites out of society immediately?

Would you all have been happier if she had been advising callers "you want to have an affair? Go for it!" "Have that kid, drop it off at the daycare center and work 95 hours a week!" "5 kids by five different guys? If it feels good, do it!".

What's with the visceral, personal, hatred of somebody on the radio? Did she tell some woman not to sleep with you?

I care. Dr. Laura does a show that I find terrible, so I don't listen. Her being forced out is as offensive to me as I find her show. We have given the wrong people control over what we get to listen to. Sponsors should not dictate programming, even though they do have the right to chose what they will or will not support. Everyone in media should at least care about this. I heard what she said, can anyone explain to me why her repeating a word without context is so offensive to anyone? Have we actually gotten to the point where a word can make everyone forget common sense? (don't answer, I am not naive, just disgusted). But don't say you don't care, that makes you part of the problem.

Frankly, I feel no sympathy for her whines about her First Amendment rights -- which haven't been infringed in any ways. She has the First Amendment right to say what she wants, but the advertisers also have a First Amendment right to decide what programming they want to associate with, and stations have a First Amendment right to decide what programs they will air. The bottom line is that Dr. Laura has the right to say what she wants, but she know more has a guarantee of a network and place to express those viewpoints than do any of the rest of us.

In the end, it seems like her complaint is that she's not being treated as special as she thinks she deserves to be.

That, in a nut shell, sums up the whole issue. You can say whatever you want0 but that doesn't many anyone has to pay you to say it.

If she wants to remain on the air without sponsors or management breathing down her neck, she can buy her own station and pay for her own air time.

And if she can't afford it, that's too bad.

Free speech doesn't mean free access to broadcasting said speech.

If you're offended only because she used the n word then you missed the point of what she said. I found her comments to be sane, while rude, but nothing offensive.

Maybe it's a maturity issue with some of you.

The man whose name you've borrowed thought it was a big deal. Dr. Laura thinks anyone should be able to say it because black guys say it to each-other. Richard thought that even the brothers should stop. Check the link below.

I couldn't agree with you more. While I'm not usually one to defend Dr. Laura, this time she was spot on. I said in an earlier post, that when you remove the emotion- and listen objectively- her advice and observation should make sense.

We have been PC'd to death.

Ditto on this! Dr. Laura's First Amendment rights were not infringed. She has the right to say whatever she wants to say on the show as long as no FCC landmines are being stepped on. What she fails to understand is that other people have rights under the First Amendment to protest what she says on her show.

Again, her rights were not infringed. She's quitting. Plain and simple.

I listened objectively. Schelessinger basically told a Black woman to get over her White spouse's friends' slurs and jokes, as if the woman should have expected most White men to be racial pricks. I don't see how one could take that sentiment positively.

No, we just have folks mighty comfortable living in pigeon holes.

Let's not forget this 'Black woman' is the one who called in to a radio show looking for actual advice on how to handle such a sensitive issue. Before Dr. Laura even uttered the "N word" I was already convinced that this caller was an idiot for putting such an important relationship into a WANNA BE therapist's hands. She asked for advice and didn't like the advice she got. This call seemed like a set up to me. Who in their right mind would call Dr. Laura for marriage advice? Especially for such a devisive subject? This topic is taboo. Always has been, always will be.

I don't like her show. I don't like how she treats the callers. Dr. Joy Browne is much nicer.

Have any of you board oped her show? Oh my god I used to have to drink a soda to keep myself awake to board op it and we carried her during the day!!!!!! (First 9AM-Noon later live 3PM-6PM Eastern).

She was on KRLD's sister station WTIC in Hartford, which also shares the 1080 frequency until 2001. In 2002 she was picked up by a 2500 watt rim-shot AM from the suburbs - WXCT 990. The best part when we moved her to the live clearance is the power down to 80 watts at 4:15PM in December! We carried her until we were sold and went Spanish Adult Contemporary in May 2004. When we went back to our previous talk format in October 2005 we put her back on the air again and we put a sign in front of our building "Dr. Laura is Back! Weekdays 3PM-6PM!" People used to honk their horns driving by. During the entire second coming of the talk format on WXCT which lasted from October 2005 until May 2007 DrLaura.Com never listed us as an affiliate. Only WLAD down in the Danbury Market was listed. On a Thursday Afternoon in early May 2007 our General Manager pulled the plug on the station at 3:30PM right when Dr. Laura went to break. It was an abrupt switch from commercials to Spanish Christian programming. (The GM lost his LMA thus the switch of formats).

First, the 'Black woman' is Nita Hanson, who really is a living, breathing, African-American female who's been interviewed on CNN. I think we can agree that part of the equation hasn't been faked, alright?

You should really make up your mind on a few aspects. You can't in one breath say Schlessinger 'was spot on' (about what?), then chide the caller for inquiring a known hack in the first place. Maybe it was a legit call for advice, maybe it wasn't. It doesn't actually make a difference--it's not the question, it's the response. There's no 'I hope everyone heard that' made in jest if Schlessinger didn't make a horse's patoot of herself.

And that's what Dummy Laura did, clearly laying out a litany of her own hilariously lazy thinking (if we can't call it what it is, racism): All African-American comics use the n-word, and it makes up the majority of their acts. All Black people voted for Obama based upon skin color. And now with that Black man as president, complaints about racism are laughable.

Those points, all while knowingly sprinkling the n-word into her spiel ELEVEN TIMES. You'll excuse me if I jump to a few conclusions about how Laura Schlessinger rolls.

Do you think her mom is rolling in her grave over this?

Her kid's mom does.

Isn't she her kids mom....wait....what? Nevermind. I am on board with the rest of you, who cares.

Oh, I care. I was on the road a lot back in the late 90's and listened to a lot of talk radio. Back then I tuned across Dr. Laura frequently and found her particularly obnoxious. I was convinced that she took particular delight in belittling each and every caller. Years passed and nothing changed, except I don't listen to tired old talk anymore from anyone. Music is therapeutic, but bad advice from self-righteous charlatans is toxic. I'm glad to see this hack finally put out to pasture.
