Dr. Phil signs TV deal for 'Envoy TV' with Charter

From Google AI:

Envoy TV Network is a new cable and streaming channel launched by Dr. Phil McGraw through his company, Envoy Media, which was founded in July 2025. The network aims to provide balanced news, entertainment, and user-generated content from community "citizen journalists" via a digital app, as well as featuring content from contributors like Steve Harvey and reruns of his show. Envoy TV recently secured a long-term distribution deal with Charter Communications's Spectrum brand, making it available to over 57 million homes.

Dr. Phil thinks he can copy the playbook of his former boss and assume her audience stays with him. However, that’s not necessarily true even his former boss has some sway but with different audiences here for the podcast.

Even his former boss Oprah knows that her current audience isn’t using cable anymore and is only watching her current show only on podcasts and YouTube. Oprah’s current podcast audience was not old enough to know the connections with her and Dr. Phil when they were on TV in the late 1990’s early 2000’s timeframe.

I suppose the thinking of being on Cable TV gives the new network 'clout'.. .Oh look, we're one of the big boys, we have a cable channel. With cable dying at faster rate than first realized, yeah getting on FAST and other streamers makes more business sense. As mentioned in the article, this will follow the same route as Merit, both cable and streaming.

In other words, this be EVERYWHERE soon...Ugh!

How can you say that for sure?
Oops I meant parts of the current audience who only saw the podcast show.

It’s not an exact one was what I meant to say. Here’s the current data. The point was does Dr. Phil assume that following his former bosses playbook would help him retain an audience for both Cable and Podcasts. We can partially show that’s not always the case. It’s not an absolutely sure one.

For Merit specifically its Audience size is very low.

Merit TV never reached a wide audience — in primetime, it averaged a paltry 27,000 viewers in 2024, ranking 130th among broadcast and cable outlets. The company touted its January performance (albeit without any detailed numbers), noting that Merit TV moved up to 65th place for the month. That would have meant an average audience in the low six figures, based on 2024 data, and was also the peak for Merit TV: By the second quarter of 2025, its audience dipped to just 17,000 primetime viewers.

Merit Street may be toast. But the head shrinker bounces back on cable TV. This is happening while still dealing with financial and legal woes...

Whos gonna want to work for this guy considering all his other main shows on merit channel failed for the most part and his channel got pulled off the air?

His fan base is so large, when they sit around the house watching Dr. Phil, they sit AROUND the house!

Just a reminder that this is Radio Discussions, not One Liner Discussions.

If it's not adding to the conversation about broadcast topics, it's not necessary to chime in like this on every thread.

Thanks.

(And I say this not only as a sometimes-moderator but also as a sometimes-standup comic who keeps my jokes on the stage most of the time )

Well, Envoy FAST is growing quickly.... now added to Samsung TV Plus (channel 2977). Today's programming has been reruns of the old syndicated Dr.Phil shows, and a program called 'Face The Truth', a similar Dr.Phil type of show with 5 women as hosts.

Hopefully they get on Roku or Prime Video soon. Or on some distributor that doesn't require a specific cable subscription or TV make/model to access.
