Read it on Richard Wagoner post in the la daily news this morning. Is anyone surprised. Before this what station were they on? I'm not really surprised. I'm thinking it could have happened sooner.

David E your thoughts?

Let me be clear there will NOT be any ducks games on AM radio this season. Just tune in. So if you are a hockey fan download tune in and you can pay a minimal fee to hear the games.

This would suggest that KLAA won't be around in its current form in 2023.

TuneIn is not charging for Ducks Stream, per their FAQ.

Here's more on the story.

Since the owner has put the Angels up for sale, it's likely KLAA will be changing.

I wonder where the Angels go next. I don’t think the Angels are worth flipping an fm to sports. Does Saul like Angels baseball lol?

I don't expect the Dicks to stay on TuneIn forever. It may not even last the season. When teams have the choice between paying for steaming, or getting paid to have someone else handle it, they usually choose to get paid by someone else. I don't know how much they're paying for TuneIn, but I'm sure it's a lot if you add up staff and time.

Most American NHL teams' audio streaming is handled by their flagship radio station. For example, the Chicago Blackhawks air via the WGN website or app as part of their normal stream. Not sure about the Canadian teams.

Anyone remember this article from 2020? If I'm not mistaken someone on Radio Discussions said the A's were already back on the radio even last season.

Oakland A's become first MLB team to ditch local radio for streaming

The Oakland A's announced on Tuesday that they would become the first Major League Baseball team to ditch a local radio broadcast for a streaming-only solution. Fans can listen to games through the TuneIn mobile app for free as long as they live in the A's northern California media market.
Curiously, games will still be on the radio in some cities, the closest of which is Sacramento.
Maybe the A's will be vindicated for this move years down the line. It's totally possible that younger fans will be more drawn to baseball if the game lives on their phones rather than on the radio. That said, it's worth wondering if the move to TuneIn will only inconvenience some of the A's biggest fans instead.

Correct. A few months after making the announcement that they were ditching radio (The Game) and were instead on TuneIn, they signed a deal with KNEW and iHeartRadio:

That deal remained in place for 2021 and 2022. This is why I say when the dust from KLAA settles, we will see the Ducks on some station somewhere. Perhaps on KSPN or back at KLAA. The best situation would be on KRLA, but they have the Lakers in the winter.

Same Boston sports station has the Bruins and Celtics. When there's a conflict, one of the games goes to a co-owned music station.

Actually I see that the Lakers are on KSPN, not KLAC. The LA Clippers are on KLAC. KSPN doesn't own any other stations. KLAC is partly owned by iHeart, and the LA Kings hockey team currently streams on iHeartRadio. So at this time, neither hockey team has a radio affiliate.

What is left on AM besides talk radio?

There are at least 4 AM stations in my area [NE Ohio] that still play music. Well, technically three, but I can pull in Zoomer radio [AM 740] out of Toronto most nights. That's not including the ones that play gospel/religious music.

There's an AM station in NE Ohio that has a high school football game on it's main frequency and then streams THREE more different high school teams on their web site. Not sure how they work out the logistics of that but they must be making moolah from all the commercials they're playing across what could basically be called 4 stations.
