Dusty Dunn Retires Again - End of Local Radio in Greensboro

Dusty Dunn's last broadcast on WGOS-AM will be this Friday - May 30th.

Jim Modlein, "Sports Director" for Dusty's show reported on www.GreensboroSports.Com yesterday, that Dusty's father is ill and needs constant care and attention. Dusty decided that he would rather take care of his father instead of placing him in a care facilty.

Dusty was the only local Broadcaster in Greensboro - he reported on things that people in Greensboro were interested. Sure there are several dozen of so stations that call Greensboro home; but only Dusty Dunn devoted all of his time to all things Greensboro. I'm sure the News & Record will benefit as Dusty often read the News & Record directly to his listeners, picking out the stories so they wouldn't have to get the paper themselves. He was of a different time; but even so he was a JEWEL because he filled a disparate need for LOCAL RADIO.

It is my hope that someone will step up to fill the need to provide Greensboro with the coverage and service it needs.

Had the pleasure of working with Dusty for a year at WSJS .. and competing against him in Wilmington back in the 60s. Dusty, I wish you well!

I think Dusty was at WCOG when I was at WTOB? Good Luck Bud! Fenley, were you at WAIR in 74 with Paul "hootchy Coo" Richards?

My favorite Dusty Dunn moment was when he called in drunk to the Brad Krantz show on the old WKEW after he learned that 'KEW was flipping to Radio Disney. Yeah, no one read the newspaper on the air like ol' Dusty. Now who will give that frothing right wing misanthrope John Hammer a weekly forum?

No, I was at WGNI in Wilmington from 1964 to 1980. Dusty worked for WHSL late 60s or very early 70s
