Dusty Hill of ZZ Top has passed away at 72

Wow, this sux. Also, though I know ZZ Top has been around for years, for some reason it never occurred to me that members of that band could be this old :(

ZZ Top turned out some great music for sure, and it always made me chuckle that the only member without a beard, had the last name Beard.

Wow, had no idea. Billy Gibbons just released his third solo album, and while he promoted it, he said there's a new ZZ Top album in the works:

I don't see it happening, either with Gibbons and Beard + studio musicians, or if they find a replacement for Hill. All three are irreplaceable, and now one is gone. Dusty Hill can't be replaced in ZZ Top any more than Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, or Charlie Watts could be replaced in the Rolling Stones.

Although the Stones managed to replace Bill Wyman, and they're on their third lead guitarist. Seems to me Charlie sat out for a tour or two. He's 80. Ringo just turned 81.

The problem for ZZTop is that Dusty sang lead on several big hits, like Tush.

Someone I went to church with as a teenager said on Facebook Billy should go solo and the name "ZZ Top" should be retired. I don't know what he thinks Frank should do. This guy has played in rock bands and worked for famous rock bands so I guess he should know.

All I can say is I liked the video with the furry spinning guitars.

This just in: Charlie Watts is sitting out this tour for the Rolling Stones:

Wow! Hopefully it's not his throat cancer coming back, or anything else equally serious. Ron Wood has been battling cancer as well, but I haven't heard that he won't be touring with the Stones.
