Dxing Opportunities with Disney Stations going dark at least temporarily

WDZY, Richmond, VA, went silent for a few weeks, then came back as a brokered religicaster a couple of months ago.

Scott Frybush reported on the AM FB group that the shutdown is on hold..plans have changed....look for details in his column on his page Frybush.com later today....

Just checked and Radio Disney 1380 in St. Pete/Tampa and it's still on the air.

Didn't know Disney had one of those morning shows like all the rest.

1250 KKDZ still Disney, 1640 KDZR still Disney, and there was even a local promo spot on KDZR about an hour ago.

Apparently the stations have a bit of a reprieve for now.

Disney's lawyers decided they need to keep the stations on the air...taking them dark without a financial or technical reason would be a bad thing in the FCC's eyes (so they think) so rather than risk losing the license, they will keep them on until someone buys them...

Lots of RF up for sale now ;)

Also it's always easier to sell a house when there's furniture in it. Not that it's an easy sell.

Alot of DXer's were hoping to get something if they did go dark

Great...a death watch. Like people who can't wait for an estate auction.

FWIW I'm glad they're still on. Decent mix of pop w/o a ton of rap, easy to DX them also -- pretty distinctive on the airwaves.

Many of the Radio Disney stations are old, well protected Class I, Class II-B, Class III-A, and Class III-B stations. You won't hear much when such stations are off the air, except at sunrise and sunset, and stations on official and "unofficial" STAs with day facilities. Yes, you can hear the weak 200 uV/m 10% skywaves interfering with the old III-Bs, but my experience is you won't hear much intelligible on an old III-A that is off the air within their protected contour.

Scott has his own FB page (scott fybush) and of course the web site, fybush.com....The AM group he posts in is "I Love AM Radio" on FB (plus there is the www.transmittersites.com or "I Take Pictures of Transmitter Sites" group which has over 7000 members on it...but covers studios, towers, ANY transmitter sites like ham, bdcast, cellular, LMR, etc)

What station do you think going to flip 1st

1560 in New York going to be the 1st to go

No sales have been announced, and no transfer applications filed. So speculation at this point is not very useful.
