A few weeks ago, I wrote about the history of the current KABC-790 AM license and its call changes since 1925. I also mentioned that in the 1930s, KTM-780 shared time with Burbank station KELW from 1927 until KELW went dark and merged with KEHE-780 in 1937.
Somebody asked if anyone recall what type of programs were broadcast by KTM and/or KELW. I almost forgot that during the mid-1930s, KELW ran a Spanish language program of early Tejano music from 4 a.m. until 6 a.m. which was popular with DX listeners in far-off New Zealand!
New Zealander David Ricquish contacted me some 10 years ago, and we collaborated on an article for his radio website about KELW-Burbank's short history and its part in early Spanish broadcasting in Southern California. For those who may want to read more, the link to the article is below:
