Economic crunch finds Don West on the outs at WNSR

i called the radio station today and they stated that economic crunch got them and had to make cuts and Don West was let go cause of the advertising dollars not there and they made the decision to cut back on one of the shows that was not doing well numbers wise and Dons was the unfortunate one....I wish Don well and hope he surfaces again soon but until i will watch him on TNA Wrestling on Thursdays and listen to my old Dan and Scott shows and the Don West segments on there.

I was told they were already hit with the downturn, but waited until recently hoping things would be better come football season, because they just didn't want to have to cut local air talent (let's see one of the big corporations wait longer than they should've on a budget need). Most people were surprised that they could have afforded three local shifts per weekday, anyway, but the secret was that they weren't supporting corporate overhead and didn't have to measure up to corporate ROI. It just hasn't been the same for them since C****** decided they needed to compete for the lowest rated station in town by going after 650's network.

WNSR has done quite well with its commitment to local programming and it's sad to hear they're cutting Don West's program. The corporate guys wouldn't have kept it as local this long, for sure, so WNSR is to be commended for hanging in as long as they have. Having done business with the management, I know they're capable and talented people and that this was not an easy decision for them.

WNSR is an amazing little operation and, I too, have always been amazed (and a little skeptical) at their ability keep their small station afloat with all the local "talent" they have on-board. It can't be easy to sell the non-quality, poor signal product they do--yet they keep plugging away year-after-year. Good for them!

BTW, GM Ted Johnson IS MOST DEFINITELY NOT a GM in the way most people understand the term in the business. While he does own a share of the station, Jeff Kolb calls all the shots of significance. Johnson is more of glorified Board Op than traditional GM--but that's a story for another day...
